Changes
The following change has been made in this release of Studio for InDesign and InCopy:
- The behavior of the settings for a Dossier panel that are loaded when the panel is closed and opened has slightly changed. In previous versions, when a Dossier panel was closed it still existed in the background, including the options and settings that were applied to the panel. When the Dossier panel was re-opened, options such as filter settings or 'Show preview' were again applied.
Starting from version 17.0.9, a Dossier panel that is closed does now not exist any longer. When a Dossier panel is then opened therefore, the default settings are loaded, without any filtering and without any other options applied to it.

Changes
The following changes have been made in this release of Studio for InDesign and InCopy:
- Unnecessary processing in InDesign Server is prevented when opening a layout with object operations for multiple article elements and object styles applied. This change improves the performance when placing a multi-component article in Studio on a layout that contains frames with an object style which has a paragraph style assigned to it.
It used to be that for each article component, the article was checked-out and checked-in in InDesign Server when updating the layout. With the change, the article is updated only once: when all components have been placed. This improvement therefore reduces the number of check-out and check-in actions on the article.
For reference, the placing of articles in Studio with object styles that have a paragraph style assigned is described in Styling text using InDesign object styles when placing articles with Studio for InDesign.

No known issues exist in this release of Studio for InDesign and InCopy.

Changes
The following changes have been made in this release of Studio for InDesign and InCopy:
- Scripting: The afterGeometryNotification scripting event has been extended with a 'geometry status' flag to reduce the number of pop-up alerts in InCopy. Currently, the afterGeometryNotification scripting event only provides the object ID of the layout that was updated.
This is limited, because each update of the layout will result in some action, presumably a warning alert about the updated geometry.
Instead, the Update Geometry button of the InCopy toolbar changes color: yellow for low priority changes and red for high priority changes.
Now, the geometry update status is also passed to the scripting event. When the ‘geometry status’ is available in the event script, then the custom script that catches the event can decide whether or not to display the alert about the geometry update.
The afterGeometryNotification in the Scripting Guide has been updated with information about the technical details.

Changes
The following changes have been made in this release of Studio for InDesign and InCopy:
- When aborting the check out of a layout in InDesign on which articles are checked out, users can now choose how these articles should be closed. When opening a layout, checking out some of its articles, and deciding that the check out of the layout should be aborted, a message now appears asking how to close the checked out articles:
Users can choose to check in all articles, abort the check out of the articles, or cancel the closing of the layout.
In previous versions, users only had the option to check in the articles while most likely they also wanted to abort the check out of these articles. In such scenarios, the process of aborting the layout had to be canceled, the check out of all articles had to be aborted manually, after which the check out of the layout could be aborted again.
The new options make this process much more efficient.
For more information, see Closing or saving a layout using Studio for InDesign.

Changes
The following changes have been made in this release of Studio for InDesign and InCopy:
- The geometry of placed adverts is now always honored, as long as the geometry of the advert in the planning system is not changed. When a planned advert is placed on a layout, its position and size (known as geometry) can end up being different from the geometry of the advert in the planning system when the layouter is laying out the page.
In Studio for InDesign version 17.0.0 and 17.0.1 for Adobe 2022 as well as all lower versions for Adobe 2021, 2020 and so on, the geometry of the advert in InDesign was always leading as long as the advert was on the same page as in the planning system. If needed, the geometry defined in the planning system could be made to always be leading by enabling the option 'RespectPlannedAdvertGeometry'.
Now, the default behavior is that the geometry changes made in InDesign are always honored as long as the geometry settings in the planning system are not changed. When the geometry is changed in the planning system, the geometry of the advert is restored when the layout is checked in and will become visible the next time the layout is opened.
This new behavior gives more control to the layouter who can still fine-tune the geometry in its intended place, but when a more drastic change is required (such as moving a half-page advert from the top of the page to the bottom), making this change in the planning tool is still honored.
The 'RespectPlannedAdvertGeometry' option is still supported, but should not be needed with this change in behavior.
For more information, see Controlling geometry changes of planned Adverts in Studio for InDesign.
- Scripting: Changes to the metadata of a layout or article are now also reflected in the Check-in dialog. When changes are made via scripting to the metadata of a layout or an article using EntMetaData.set(key, value), these change are now also reflected in the Check-in dialog.

Studio for InDesign and InCopy 17.0.1
Version: 17.0.1 build 16 for Adobe 2022
Release date: 29 April 2022
Downloads
The download files for this version of Studio for InDesign and InCopy can be found in the Release announcement.
New features
The following has been added in this release of Studio for InDesign and InCopy:
- Dossier panel: Hiding related Dossiers. By default, the Dossier panel shows the Dossiers that the currently viewed layout is part of, as well as the Dossiers that all placed files are part of.
This can be useful to quickly navigate to a different Dossier, but when many files and their related Dossiers exist, the list of Dossiers can become very long and the overview in the panel can be lost.
A new option named 'Show Related Dossiers' has therefore been added to the panel menu which controls whether or not related Dossiers should be shown.
System administrators can configure the default setting of this option, and prevent users from changing it.
For more information, see:
- Working with Dossiers in Studio for InDesign and InCopy for Adobe 2021 or higher
- Configuring the display of related Dossiers in the Dossier panel of Studio for InDesign and InCopy
Changes
The following changes have been made in this release of Studio for InDesign and InCopy:
- Searching: Reduction in the number of criteria shown by default in the Custom Search dialog box and validation for incorrect input. When creating a Custom Search, the Name field is now shown as the only criteria to search on, instead of the first three criteria configured in the system. This way, default criteria that are not used do not first have to be removed or changed each time. In addition, a validation is now performed to verify that the correct value is entered. For example: when a non-numeric character is entered in a field that only accepts numbers, a message is shown.
- Studio panel: New column 'Placed On (Icon)' added. To better visualize that a file has been placed on a layout, a new column named 'Placed On (Icon)' has been added to the Studio panel. The column is shown by default and displays a 'placed' icon. When hovering over the icon, the names of the layouts on which the file is placed are shown.
- Studio Panel: Number of default columns has been increased by one. The number of default columns has been increased by one to make room for the Placed On (Icon) column (see above).
- Automated processing on InDesign Server: updating server URLs of new servers via scripting. For automated processing on InDesign Server, the WWSettings.xml file on the InDesign Server machine has to be updated with each new Studio Server instance update. To make this process less cumbersome, the server URL can now be provided directly through scripting. For this, the login() and forkLogin() scripting calls have been extended with a URL parameter of the Studio Server to log on to.
- Assets Server integration: Default setting for automatically adding placed Assets images to Studio Server has been set to off for InDesign Server. When adding an image from Assets to a layout, it is automatically added to Studio Server. For InDesign Server, this default setting has been changed to off so that images are not automatically added.
This has been done for the following reasons:
- The automatic creation of Studio images from Assets images while processing layouts on InDesign Server can add considerable load to the InDesign Server processing.
- It is in most cases unexpected that while processing layouts on InDesign Server to create previews and/or PDF images, images are suddenly created in Studio Server.
When needed, this behavior can be controlled through configuration.
Known issues
The following known issues exist in this release of Studio for InDesign and InCopy:
- EN-95436 InCopy: The Sticky Note pin disappears from the Layout view after editing the article and scrolling.

- Adobe 2022 preference for scaling the interface. InDesign and InCopy 2022 make it possible to scale the size of the interface to make it better readable for the resolution of the monitor on which InDesign or InCopy is used. This option also affects the following components of Studio for InDesign and InCopy:
- The size of Sticky Note pins placed on a layout.
- The size of the icons that are drawn on frames containing content that is stored on the server such as icons that indicate that an article or image is placed, checked-out, and so on.
