New features
The following features have been added in this release of Studio for InDesign and InCopy:
- Support for Adobe 2026. Studio for InDesign, InCopy, and InDesign Server version 21 can be used with the following Adobe applications:
- InDesign 2026 version 21.3.0 or higher (see Known issues)
- InCopy 2026 version 21.3.0 or higher
- InDesign Server 2026 version 21.1.0 or higher
- Support for opening Adobe PDF and Illustrator files as a new layout has been added to Studio for InDesign. Adobe InDesign 2026 adds support for opening/converting PDF and Illustrator files as InDesign documents. Support for this has been added to the Studio panel in Studio for InDesign.
To open a PDF or Illustrator file and convert it to a layout from the Studio panel in InDesign, right-click the file and choose Open from the context menu.
Opening a PDF or Illustrator file as an InDesign document from scripting is possible by using the app.openObject() scripting call.
Limitations
- Opening an Advert PDF or Illustrator file as an InDesign document is currently not supported.
- Opening a PDF or Illustrator file in JavaScript in InDesign Server is not possible. This functionality is not supported by Adobe.
- Adobe reports limitations on this functionality, depending on the complexity and source of the PDF. See Convert PDFs to InDesign Documents. The same limitations and shortcomings apply to opening PDF files in Studio for InDesign.

Changes
The following changes have been made in this release of Studio for InDesign and InCopy:
- Filtering on file type in the Studio panel and the Dossier panel has been made more user friendly. When using the Studio panel or the Dossier panel, more files are often shown than need to be worked on. To reduce the number of files shown, the results can be filtered by selecting or deselecting file types from a menu. In previous versions, this menu could be accessed by right-clicking the Search pane of the panel, or via the panel menu.
To make the presence of this filter more visible and make accessing it easier, a Filter icon has now been added to the Search pane in the Studio panel and in the Dossier panel. This replaces the method of right-clicking the Search pane; this method has been removed. The menu can still also be accessed via the panel menu.
To make it clear when a filter is applied, a blue check mark is shown in the Filter icon.
- Changes have been made to the configuration for informing users about upcoming deadlines. When deadlines are used, it is beneficial to configure the system in such a way so that users are informed at a specified time that a deadline is about to expire. In previous versions, this was done by sending messages using RabbitMQ.
This method has the following downsides:
- It can negatively affect performance
- Even when deadlines are not used, messages can still be triggered
Because of this, as well as the fact that the deadline functionality is not used by many customers, Studio for InDesign and InCopy 19.0.7 no longer handles RabbitMQ messages about deadlines.
If the functionality should still be needed, it can be enabled by setting the following options:
1. Add the following as a new Feature in the config_overrule.php file:
new Feature(EnableDeadlinesUpdates),
2. Add the following to the WWSetting.xml file:
<SCEnt:EnableDeadlinesUpdates/>
Known issues
The following known issues exist in this release of Studio for InDesign and InCopy:
- Studio for InDesign for Adobe 2026 is only supported in combination with InDesign 21.3 and later. This is because InDesign 21.2 introduced a persistent dependency on the Layout UI plug-in: a native InDesign plug-in that is not available in InDesign Server. As a result, InDesign Server can behave unstable when processing documents that have been saved with InDesign 21.2. See also our announcement about this issue. This issue has been resolved by Adobe in version 21.3; we strongly advice to avoid InDesign 2026 version 21.2 when using InDesign Server.
- Articles with images inside a Flex layout are not supported. This is because of an Adobe issue whereby images inside a Flex layout are skipped when creating or checking in articles. Once this issue has been resolved by Adobe, it will be possible to add Images inside a Flex layout to an article.
