In some scenarios, a temporary version of a file is uploaded to Assets, such as an image in a low resolution. When the final version of that file becomes available (in a higher resolution and/or as a different file type), the already uploaded file in Assets needs to be replaced by that final version.
This can be done by using the Replace option.
Step 1. In Assets, locate the file that you want to replace.
Step 2. Right-click the file and choose Replace from the context menu, followed by one of the following commands:1
- Replace metadata to replace the metadata values of the original file by the metadata values of the new file.2
- Keep original metadata to not replace the metadata values of the original file by the metadata values of the new file.3
1 Requires Assets 6.107 or higher, or Assets 6.114 or higher with this feature not disabled.
2 Metadata that describes file properties such as the file name is never replaced.
3 Some values may still be replaced, depending on how the system is configured.
Step 3. Browse to the new file, select it, and click Open.
Note: The file that you are replacing the original file with has to be stored outside of Assets (such as on your local system or a network drive).
The original file is replaced by the new file, and metadata is updated based on the option that was chosen.
