Viewing to which Studio files a file is linked using Studio

The files that are used in Studio are stored in Studio Server and are typically related to other files:

• A Dossier can contain one or more files.
• A file can be part of one or more Dossiers.
• An image or article can be placed on a layout.
• A layout can have one or more articles or images (that are also stored in Studio Server) placed on it.

It is important to be aware of these relationships, for example to see if other files are affected when making changes to a particular file.

Viewing such relations, known as links, can be done by using the Linked Files panel in Studio.

Accessing the panel

From the right side of the page, click the Linked Files icon.

To see the files in Studio Server to which a file is linked, do one of the following:

• Select a file anywhere in Studio.
• Select a layout in the Publication Overview (does not work for related pages and duplicate pages).

All files that the selected file is linked to (if any) are shown in the Linked files panel. How the selected file is related to the file shown in the panel is indicated as follows:

Showing the linked files in a new tab

The files that are shown in the Linked files panel can also be opened in a separate Web browser tab. This can be useful to further work on these files in some way, perhaps to view the linked files for each of these files.

To do this, click on Show in new tab at the top of the panel.

Note: Your Web browser may block the opening of multiple tabs. It will inform you that 'pop-up windows are blocked' (you may have to click an icon near the address bar to see this message). When receiving such a message, choose to 'always allow pop-ups' for Studio.

Info: This information only applies to the Linked Files panel in the Publication Overview application.

The Publication Overview Application provides a general overview of how far the production process of a print publication has progressed by showing all layouts of a publication and their Workflow Status.

This makes it possible to quickly see which areas of the publication are (nearly) completed and which areas still need work.

When it is spotted that a file still needs work, an article, image, or Dossier can be quickly opened from within the Linked Files panel of the Publication Overview Application by doing one of the following:
