When writing articles, a lot of time can be spent on tasks such as making sure that the story contains the required numbered of words, changing the tone and style of the article, coming up with different titles, writing titles for search engine optimization, and so on.
These tasks are often repetitive and optionally done using (Artificial Intelligence) tools outside of Studio.
The AI Assistant in the Print editor of Studio aims to make this process more efficient by:
- Reducing repetitive editorial work
- Improving efficiency without sacrificing quality
- Keeping AI usage embedded, controlled, and review-based
- Ensuring human judgment remains central to publishing decisions
This article explains how the AI Assistant works and how it can be used.
Figure: The AI Assistant in Studio. Here, suggestions for new titles were generated.
How it works
The AI Assistant is made available as a separate panel that is part of the Print editor.
Its features analyze the content of a Print article and provide suggestions on how it can be improved. This is done by sending the content of the article together with instructions on how it should be transformed (known as a 'prompt') to an external artificial intelligence service. The outcome is then shown in the panel in the form of a conversation as a reply to your prompt.
The results can then be used to replace the original text.
Prompts
You can write a prompt from scratch, or use one of the predefined prompts that are shown in the panel.
Once you have received a response, you can optionally write another prompt and refer to earlier responses in it.
Available prompts
Which prompts you see in the panel depends on how Studio has been configured for your organization.
By default, the panel comes with a small number of generic prompts. These are grouped under 'Edit' and 'Create' (see below). Your system administrator may have hidden these prompts, added prompts to these groups, and may have added custom prompts specific to your workflow.

How all default prompts work in detail is described later in this article.
Availability
The AI Assistant is available on request for users of Studio in the WoodWing Cloud depending on the selected package. For details, see Setting up the AI Assistant of the Print editor in Studio.
Quick start
The following steps provide a quick overview of using the AI Assistant. See the rest of the article for a more detailed explanation of the default prompts.
Step 1. Open a Print article that you want to analyze using the AI Assistant.
Step 2. In the toolbar at the top, click the AI Assistant icon to open the AI Assistant panel.
Step 3. Do one of the following:
- At the top of the panel, choose a prompt from the list below 'How can we assist you today?'.
- At the bottom of the panel, enter a prompt in the 'Describe the edits you have in mind' field and press Enter or click the Send prompt button.
The prompt is shown in a 'speech bubble' with a light orange background. When the text is short, it is aligned to the right side of the panel, similar to using a chat box.
The results are displayed in a separate bubble with a light gray background. When the text is short, it is aligned to the left side of the panel.
Important: AI can make mistakes. Always review AI-generated content before publishing.
Tip: If the suggested feedback does not match your needs, enter a new prompt, or click the Redo icon at the bottom of the bubble to run the prompt again. AI outputs can vary, and a second attempt often resolves the issue.
|
Note: When running a custom prompt or a prompt that is entered by the user, the results can include details explaining the reasons why a section of text can be improved, or why no changes are needed. In the following example, detailed feedback after running the following prompt is shown:
|
Step 4. Depending on the option that was used and the way the results are shown, do one of the following:
- Replace the text of an article component by clicking the corresponding Replace icon for that component in the response.
- Replace the text of all article components by clicking the Replace icon at the bottom of the response.
- Copy the text in the response by clicking its Copy icon and use it to manually update the text in the article.
- Copy all of the text in the response by clicking the Copy icon at the bottom of the response and use it to manually update the article.
- Manually select (part of) the response, copy it to the clipboard, and update the article with it.
- Click on one of the titles or on a paragraph to copy it to the pasteboard.
Step 5. Continue by choosing one of the following options at the bottom of the panel:
- Enter a new prompt.
- Choose a new prompt to run from the list.
- Click Reset session to clear the panel, reset the session, and start from scratch.
Note: When the session is reset, earlier responses from AI cannot be referred to anymore.
