WoodWing Studio and WoodWing Assets are delivered as a service through WoodWing Cloud, with Adobe InDesign Server available as an add-on. Adobe InDesign and InCopy are desktop clients that you install and maintain yourself, and they work together with WoodWing Cloud. This article lists the supported Adobe versions and explains how InDesign Server is used.
Supported Adobe versions
WoodWing Cloud supports the three most recent major Adobe versions supported by Studio, for InDesign, InCopy and InDesign Server. Studio's supported versions are listed in Compatibility of Studio. For the minimum InDesign Server build for each version, see Compatibility of Studio for InDesign and InCopy.
All InDesign and InCopy users in an environment should use the same Adobe version.
Note: A server upgrade does not automatically enable newer versions of third-party products such as Adobe InDesign. If you cannot use a newer version in your environment, contact WoodWing Support to have it activated.
Using InDesign Server with WoodWing Cloud
InDesign Server generates previews of layouts and articles and produces PDFs for print. The table below shows what a WoodWing Cloud InDesign Server can be used for. Other workloads are excluded so that they do not compete with Studio's preview and automation jobs, which are latency-sensitive.

A self-hosted InDesign Server is supported for tasks other than Print editor previews and InDesign Server Automation.
Billing and licenses
A WoodWing Cloud InDesign Server is an add-on and is billed separately. Each Studio instance needs its own WoodWing Cloud InDesign Server instance and its own Adobe InDesign Server license.
The Adobe InDesign Server license is not included in the add-on. You provide the license, and licenses are not shared between customers. The license is embedded in the InDesign Server installer. If you bought InDesign Server through WoodWing, WoodWing already has the installer. Otherwise, provide the installer to WoodWing.
Fonts
You provide the fonts and font licenses. Fonts are never shared between customers. Only OpenType fonts (OTF) are supported, including OTF fonts with TrueType outlines. TrueType fonts (TTF) are not supported.
Versions and updates
- New customers can choose one of the two most recent supported InDesign Server versions.
- On request, WoodWing updates your WoodWing Cloud InDesign Server to match the Adobe version of your InDesign and InCopy clients.
