Info: Performing the steps described in this article requires direct server access. Uninstalling Assets Server involves performing the following steps:
- Backing up existing files
- De-activating licenses
- Uninstalling Assets Server
Each is described for the applicable platforms below.

Steps on Windows
1. Backing up existing files
Create a backup of your installation by backing up the following locations:
- Your Assets Server/Config folder
- Your Assets Server/Elvis Hot Data folder
- Your Assets Server/Elvis Shared Data folder
- Your launch configuration
Note: Especially your Config folder can be useful in case you want to reinstall Assets Server later.
2. De-activating licenses
Step 1. Access the License page of Assets Server:
Step 1a. Access the Elvis Server panel via Applications > Elvis Server.
Step 1b. Click Server admin page.
Step 1c. Click License in the menu on the left to open the License page.
Step 2. Access the Elvis Server entry in the windows Start Menu, click Uninstall and follow the instructions.
Steps on macOS
1. Backing up existing files
Create a backup of your installation by backing up the following locations:
- Your Assets Server/Config folder
- Your Assets Server/Elvis Hot Data folder
- Your Assets Server/Elvis Shared Data folder
- Your launch configuration
Note: Especially your Config folder can be useful in case you want to reinstall Assets Server later.
2. De-activating licenses
Step 1. Open the Elvis server launcher by double-clicking Elvis Server in the Applications folder.
Step 2. Start the server and wait for it to be completed.

View the following log file:
/Library/Elvis/Logs/<datetimestamp>.stderrout.log (double-click to open)
Step 3. Return to the Elvis Server Launcher and click Server admin page.
Step 4. Access the License page and de-activate active licenses. Wait for the confirmation message that the de-activation was successful.
3. Uninstalling Assets Server
Return to the Elvis Server launcher, click Uninstall and follow the instructions.
Steps on Linux
1. Backing up existing files
Create a backup of your installation by backing up the following locations:
- Your Assets Server/Config folder
- Your Assets Server/Elvis Hot Data folder
- Your Assets Server/Elvis Shared Data folder
- Your launch configuration
Note: Especially your Config folder can be useful in case you want to reinstall Assets Server later.
2. Unmounting file stores
Unmount any shared file store that you might have mounted on the Elvis Shared Data folder.
3. Removing files
Remove the following files on all your nodes:
- Your Elvis app and config at /srv/elvis-server/*
- Your log files at /var/log/elvis-server/*
- Your init script at /etc/init.d/elvis-server
4. (Optional) Additional cleanup
(Optional) Start your cleanup of /var/tmp/ again (Elvis will have put some files there). See Installing Assets Server for information about /var/tmp cleanup.
