Keyboard shortcuts for Studio on macOS

This article shows all keyboard shortcuts that can be used for Studio on macOS.

They are presented in 2 ways: 

  1. As a full overview, listing all keyboard shortcuts in alphabetical order.
  2. By feature, listing all groups of features and their keyboard shortcuts.

Full overview

The table in the following overview shows all keyboard shortcuts in alphabetical order.

Note: See also the overview by feature.

Tip: Some keyboard shortcuts are introduced in specific versions of Studio; see how to check the version of Studio that is installed.

Shortcut Applies to Action
Alt+click Layout fullscreen preview

Hides the top-most object when objects are identical in size and placed on top of each other.

Hidden objects can be shown again by clicking outside of the object or closing and opening the fullscreen preview.
Alt+double-click Layouts in the Publication Overview Open all Dossiers in a new Browser tab that the layout belongs to.
Alt+- Editing text in the Print editor

Insert an en dash.
Alt+] Editing text in the Print editor

Insert a left single quotation mark.
Alt+[ Editing text in the Print editor

Inserts a left double quotation mark.
Alt+drag selected components Digital editor

Copy the selected components.

Arrow
(left, right, up, down)

 File in thumbnail view Move the selection from one file to another.

Navigate to the next suggestion.

When the last sentence of a component is reached and another component exists after it, the navigation jumps to the first suggestion in the next component.

Move the selection to the top component.

Navigate to the previous suggestion.

When the first sentence of a component is reached and another component exists before it, the navigation jumps to the last suggestion in the previous component.

Cmd+A Files

Select all files.

Note that this could potentially include more files than are visible on screen; files that are currently loaded for scrolling up or down are also selected.
Cmd+B Comments to any file Make text bold. (Requires Studio 11.200 or higher).
Cmd+C Digital editor Copy components or the content of a component.
Cmd+E Files Check-out a selected file for editing.
Cmd+G Files Send selected files to the next Workflow Status.
Cmd+I Comments to any file Make text italic. (Requires Studio 11.200 or higher).
Cmd+J Files, Dossiers Add selected files to a Dossier.
Cmd+J AI Copyfit feature Reject the suggestion.
Cmd+K AI Copyfit feature Accept the suggestion.
Cmd+K Comments to any file Access the 'Add link' dialog.
Cmd+U AI Copyfit feature Undo the last change when in the AI Copyfit dialog.
Cmd+U Comments to any file Make text underlined. (Requires Studio 11.200 or higher).
Cmd+V Digital editor Paste components or the content of a component.
Cmd+X Digital editor

Cut components or the content of a component.
Cmd+Y Editing text Redo the last action.
Cmd+Z Editing text in the Print editor Undo the last action.
Cmd+Z AI Copyfit feature After making changes in the AI Copyfit feature and clicking Save to close the dialog and return to the Print editor, undo all changes made in the dialog.

Insert a nonbreaking space.
Cmd+Alt+- Print editor

Insert a nonbreaking hyphen.
Cmd+Click Digital editor

Add/remove the clicked component to/from the component selection.
Cmd+Click Digital editor Article compare: compare a selected version with any other version.
Cmd+double-click Files Open a selected file in a new Web browser tab.
Cmd+double-click Linked Files panel in Publication Overview

Articles are opened in a new Web browser tab in the Print editor, or directly in InCopy (depending on the configuration).

Dossiers and images are opened in a new Web browser tab.
Ctrl+' Editing text in the Print editor

Insert a single quotation mark.
C Files Make a copy of a selected file.
E Files Check-out a selected file for editing.
Enter Workflow dialogs
  • When a field is active in a window: confirm entering data in that field (for example when a selection in a list is active).
  • When the dialog window or message is active: confirm that you want to continue (similar to clicking OK, Yes, Copy, Send, and so on).
Enter Comments to any file

Save the comment.

When the 'Add link' dialog is open: save the changes and close the dialog.
Enter Sticky Notes Save a reply or an edited Sticky Note. (Requires Studio 11.190 or higher).
Escape Files, Workflow dialogs
  • Close fullscreen mode.
  • Close Full Layout View.
  • Close the window or message without making any changes (similar to clicking Cancel)
Escape Digital editor Cancel changes made to the name or label of a Character style in the Character styles panel (accessed via Look and Feel).
Escape Comments to any file Cancel adding or editing the comment, or cancel adding or editing a hyperlink.
Escape Activity hub Close the panel.
Left Arrow Files Navigate through files.
M Files Move a selected file in a Dossier to another Dossier.
Right Arrow Files Navigate through files.
Shift+E Files Check-in a selected file.
Shift+Cmd+C Files Make a copy of a selected file.
Shift+Cmd+D Files, Dossiers Remove selected files from an opened Dossier.

  • Articles are opened in a new Web browser tab in the Print editor, or directly in InCopy (depending on the configuration).
  • Dossiers and images are opened in a new Web browser tab.
Shift+Cmd+E Open selected files in a new Web browser window.

Files open in fullscreen mode

Spacebar View selected files in fullscreen mode or close fullscreen mode.
Escape Close fullscreen mode.
Left Arrow Navigate through files.
Right Arrow Navigate through files.
Alt+click

Applies to working with layouts:

  • Hides the top-most object when objects are identical in size and placed on top of each other.
  • Hidden objects can be shown again by clicking outside of the object or closing and opening the fullscreen preview.

  • Save a reply to a Sticky Note or an edited Sticky Note. (Requires Studio 11.190 or higher).
