Before publishing an article, it is important to know that its content conforms to the writing style for the publication it is going to be published in and the audience it is aimed at, and that it is factually and grammatically correct.
Once the article is ready for publication, text may need to be created to promote it on social media and to make sure it is easily found by online search engines.
To optimize this process, the AI Assistant in the Digital editor of Studio can be used.
Figure: The AI Assistant in Studio. Here, feedback on grammar, punctuation, and spelling is given.
How it works
The AI Assistant is made available as a separate panel that is part of the Digital editor.
Its features analyze the content of a Digital article and provide suggestions on how it can be improved.
In short, it can do the following:
- Generate headlines and teasers for print and digital output.
- Generate social messages, such as for Facebook and X.
- Check for grammar, punctuation, and spelling errors.
- Check for brevity, clichés, readability, and coherence.
- Check for SEO and EEAT (creating helpful, reliable, people-first content experience using the EEAT system: Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness).
- Check for consistency in tone and style by using a reference article aimed at a specific target audience.
Results are visualized in the form of score cards together with feedback and suggestions. This can be used to decide per case if that section of the article should be improved and if the provided suggestions should be used for improving it.
Suggestions can be easily copied to the clipboard or used to quickly replace the original text.
The AI Assistant works for articles in all languages. However, the UI of the panel is in English only.
Note: The analysis is performed by OpenAI. The data is processed in the US; EMEA customers who do not consent should inform WoodWing and not request to activate the technology preview. Customer data is not used for training,
How all the features work in detail is described later in this article.
Technology preview
The AI Assistant should be considered as a 'Technology preview': a feature that is introduced with limited capabilities. Once a feature has reached its full potential, the 'Technology preview' label will be removed.
We eagerly seek user feedback to enhance and refine these features. Submitting feedback can be done by using the Feedback option at the bottom right corner of the panel.

Step 1. Open a Digital article that you want to analyze using the AI Assistant.
Step 2. In the toolbar on the right side, click the AI Assistant icon to open the AI Assistant panel.
Step 3. At the top of the panel, choose an option from the 'What can we help you with today?' menu.
Note: When an option is selected from the menu, it is automatically added to the top of the panel for easy access (up to a maximum of five). These options are persistent and remain available even between login sessions.
The following options are available:
- Create titles. Generate titles for digital and print output.
- Create social. Generate a long or short social post without hashtags.
- Create teaser. Generate digital teasers and print intros.
- Copy edit. Check the following:

- Tone and style. Check the tone and style of the article.
The following options are custom prompts and are shown in the menu below a line to indicate this. These are configured by the system administrator and can differ per Brand. The following custom prompts are provided by WoodWing as part of the Studio demo environment. They may not be available in your environment but are described here as examples of what is possible to add.

Note: Your system administrator may have added additional options, known as 'custom prompts'. Depending on their configuration, a custom prompt analyzes the whole article, or only the text or components that were selected. Check with your system administrator for details.
The results are displayed in the lower section of the panel in the form of a score, feedback, and suggested actions to take.
Step 4. Depending on the option that was used and the way the feedback was given, do one of the following:
- Manually edit the article.
- Hover over a suggestion and click the Copy icon that appears to copy the text to the clipboard.
- Hover over a suggestion and click the Find icon that appears to highlight the text in the article.
- Hover over a suggestion and click the Replace icon that appears to automatically replace the original text with the suggested text.
Configuration
The AI Assistant can be used as-is, but the results of some of its features are based on content that represents the tone and style of an article for that publication, a description of the target audience, keywords for search engine optimization, or a custom prompt.
This applies to the following features:
- Tone and style. This is based on a representative article, one for each Brand and Category combination.
- SEO. Keywords can be provided so that the article is more easily found by online search engines.
- Custom prompts. Custom prompts can be added to the menu by the system administrator. Depending on the configuration, the custom prompt analyzes the whole article, or only the selected text or selected components.
For details on how to do this, see Configuring the AI Assistant of the Digital editor in Studio. It is assumed here that these steps have been performed.
