We have some important news to share regarding the support for the Studio Application and the default component set for digital publishing. The Social Media component has reached the end of life and has been officially sunset.
Impact
The impact of this change is that all Studio users currently relying on the social media component within Studio’s Digital Editor will no longer be able to use this functionality. It is no longer possible to insert Facebook or Instagram posts in digital articles when the social media component is used. Doing so results in the following error message: This link does not point to a supported platform.
Existing Facebook or Instagram posts in digital articles created with the social media component do not load anymore. Doing so results in the following error message: Failed to load component for: https://www.facebook.com/....
- Impacts all Studio users regardless of the Studio version being used as social media embedding is handled in our cloud backend.
- Impacts all articles in Studio that have Facebook or Instagram posts embedded using the social media component. These posts won’t load anymore and the article cannot be published anymore when it contains these posts.
Note that the X (formally known as Twitter) and YouTube functionality will continue to work as normal. It is specifically Facebook and Instagram that will no longer function as expected.
Workaround
As a workaround, users can manually embed posts into articles:
- Navigate to the Facebook or Instagram post
- Create an embed code
- In the Studio digital article, insert a new embed component (Media -> Embed)
-
Open the Properties panel, paste the embed code and click Apply.
This workaround should also be applied to replace any existing Facebook or Instagram posts created with the social media component.
Background
At WoodWing, we conduct an annual review to ensure that the social media component continues to function as expected and remains approved by the publishing channels it supports. Unfortunately, this year, the new parameters required to maintain this functionality have exceeded what is within our control.
To meet the requirements of all social media platforms, two validations are necessary: first, the validation of WoodWing’s own privacy policies, which has already been completed; and second, the validation of the privacy policies for every company and brand with access to the social media component. This second requirement presents an overwhelming challenge for our customer base.
With this in mind, we have made the decision to move to sunset the social media component. We understand that this change of functionality may impact customers who have been using the Social Media component for publishing articles and sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused.
If you have any questions or concerns about this change, please contact our Customer Success team. Thank you for your understanding and patience.
Best regards,
Dani Leyhue
