MySQL 5.7 Support Ending – Please Upgrade to MySQL 8.0 before proceeding to the upcoming 8.4

As part of the ongoing updates to align Studio Server with MySQL’s latest supported versions, we want to remind all on-premise customers of an important change. Support for the latest MySQL LTS release (MySQL 8.4) will be added in a future version of Studio Server. This means support for MySQL 5.7 will be discontinued. 

Impact

The discontinuation of MySQL 5.7 support means that all on-premise Studio Server customers still running on MySQL 5.7 will need to upgrade to MySQL 8.0 in preparation for future compatibility.

Starting with this transition:

• Studio Server environments running on MySQL 5.7 will no longer be supported.
• Continued use of MySQL 5.7 may lead to incompatibilities or failed updates when newer Studio Server releases become available.
• MySQL 8.0 support has been available since Enterprise Server 10.6 (released in February 2019) and has been the recommended version in our documentation since then.

Recommended Action

To ensure continued stability and compatibility, please follow these steps:

1. Upgrade from MySQL 5.7 to MySQL 8.0 – this is the first required step.
2. Once WoodWing finishes adding 8.4 support, upgrade from MySQL 8.0 to MySQL 8.4 as outlined by MySQL documentation.
   • Important: A bugfix or LTS series cannot be skipped. Directly upgrading from MySQL 5.7 to MySQL 8.4 is not supported.

Background

In February 2019, WoodWing added full MySQL 8.0 support starting with Enterprise Server 10.6. Since that time, MySQL 8.0 has been the recommended version for all on-premise deployments. With MySQL 8.4 now becoming the next Long-Term Support (LTS) version, the removal of 5.7 compatibility ensures our platform remains aligned with modern standards and continues to provide reliable performance, security, and scalability.
