Assets Agent is an application with which files can be automatically opened from Assets in their native application. After editing them in some way, they can then be saved back to Assets.
Using Assets with Assets Agent makes it possible for you to work on your files without the hassle of managing the file itself. With Assets Agent, Assets can automatically open a file in its native application and detect when that file has been edited. This way, a new version can be seamlessly checked back in to Assets.
Assets Agent is available for Windows and macOS and needs to be separately installed on your system. Once installed, it runs in the background while working with Assets.
Note: Editing InDesign files is not done by using Assets Agent but with a dedicated InDesign plug-in: Assets for InDesign. For more information, see the articles about working with Assets 10 for InDesign.
This article describes how to install Assets Agent.
Note: We are currently in the process of renaming our products, the application is temporarily called 'Swivle', but referred to here as 'Assets Agent'.

Tip: Configure your system in such a way that Assets Agent is automatically started when the system itself is started.
(Optional) Changing preferences
By default, files that are checked-out are stored in the following location:

To change this location, do the following:
Step 1. Make sure that Assets Agent is running.
Step 2. Access the Assets Agent menu by doing one of the following:
- macOS: Click the icon in the menu bar.
- Windows: Right-click the icon in the notification area (system tray).
Step 3. From the menu, choose Change Checkouts folder.
Step 4. In the dialog that appears, select the folder in which the checked-out files should be stored.
Using Assets Agent
The next time you log in to Assets, it will detect if Assets Agent is running on your machine and will automatically connect to it.
For more information, see Opening files for editing (file check-out and check-in) in Assets 10.
Troubleshooting
When Assets Agent is not working correctly, try the solutions listed below.
Re-connecting Assets Agent
If Assets Agent is disconnected from Assets, the connection can be restored by clicking the icon on the top right in the header when logged in.
Alternatively, close and restart Assets Agent, and/or log out of Assets and log in again.
Log file
In case something goes wrong, a log file may need to be sent to support for troubleshooting purposes. This file is stored in the following location:
- macOS: ~/Library/Logs/Assets Agent/log.log
- Windows: %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Assets Agent\log.log
