Dear customers and partners,
In March 2025 we announced the end of life of Smart Mover. That date, 27 March 2027, has not changed. What we are adding is a way to keep Smart Mover running while you move to a replacement: Smart Mover Extended Best Effort Support (EBES). Support for Smart Mover already ended on 27 March 2026, so EBES also sets out clearly what we can and cannot do in the period we are in now.
From 27 March 2027 until 31 March 2029, every existing Smart Mover customer can continue under EBES. It gives you the continued right to use Smart Mover and help from our support team on a best-effort basis, without the guarantees of a regular support agreement. EBES is a bridge to a replacement. It is not a continuation of the product.
You do not need to do anything to get EBES. Your Smart Mover agreement moves to EBES automatically on 27 March 2027, unless you cancel it. How that works depends on what you have today. If you have a Smart Mover maintenance agreement on a purchased license, your maintenance converts to the EBES support plan and you keep your license. If you have a Smart Mover subscription, your subscription converts to EBES, which carries both your right to continue using Smart Mover and the support described below.
Key dates
| Date | What happens |
| 27 March 2025 | End of life announced. |
| 27 March 2026 | End of support. No more updates or patches for Smart Mover. |
| 27 March 2027 | End of life. Existing Smart Mover agreements move to EBES. |
| 31 March 2029 | EBES ends. WoodWing no longer provides any support for Smart Mover. If your agreement runs beyond this date, we will contact you individually. |
What EBES includes
| Included | Not included |
| Help from WoodWing Support during office hours, on a best-effort basis | A service level agreement: there is no committed response or resolution time |
| Up to 4 hours per contract year of configuration help on your existing installation. Unused hours do not carry over. | Fixes to Smart Mover itself |
| The continued right to use Smart Mover, if you have a subscription. If you purchased a license, you already hold that right. | Updates, patches or security fixes |
| Access to existing documentation and previously released fixes | Certification for new versions of operating systems, databases or Adobe products |
| Advice on moving your Smart Mover flows to a replacement | New customers, new installations, or new or expanded flows |
EBES terms
- Best effort means we commit to the effort, not to a result. We will try to help, but we cannot guarantee that every issue can be solved.
- Configuration help is available for installations running on Linux only.
- WoodWing no longer maintains an in-house Smart Mover test environment. We may not be able to reproduce the issue you are seeing.
- Support covers existing installations running the latest released version of Smart Mover. If you run an older version, we may ask you to update to the last released version before we can help.
- EBES follows your existing agreement and renewal date, so in most cases it is billed exactly as it is today. What changes is that you can cancel EBES at the end of any month. If WoodWing has to end EBES before 31 March 2029, we give you two months’ notice.
- If you cancel EBES, you cannot rejoin later without paying for the months in between.
- Configuration help beyond the included 4 hours per contract year is charged by the hour at our standard rate.
Your rate does not change. Most vendors charge a premium for support beyond end of life, and some increase it every year. We have chosen to keep Smart Mover at the rate you pay today. The point of EBES is to give you room to move, not to charge you for the time that takes.
If you sign a plan with WoodWing to replace Smart Mover, we credit your EBES fee against that project for up to 12 months.
If you run Smart Mover on macOS
Smart Mover depends on macOS behavior that Apple has deprecated. A future macOS update could stop Smart Mover from working on a Mac, and we will not be able to fix that. Smart Mover runs fine on Linux. If you run Smart Mover on macOS, we recommend moving it to Linux or making your migration a priority. However, the configuration help in EBES applies only to installations on Linux. On macOS, EBES gives you the right to keep using Smart Mover, access to our documentation and our migration advice, but not configuration help.
Replacing Smart Mover
Smart Mover is used for many different things, from simple file moves to complex integrations, so there is no single replacement. What fits depends on where your WoodWing system runs.
| Where you run WoodWing | Replacement options |
| WoodWing Cloud | WoodWing Connect, or a small purpose-built service for simpler flows. We treat each Smart Mover flow like any other integration: we map what it does, design the replacement, and build it with you. |
| Self-hosted or on-premises | WoodWing Connect, or workflow tools such as n8n or Enfocus Switch, built and, where needed, hosted by a WoodWing partner. Which one fits depends on how your environment is set up, so talk it through with your account manager or partner. |
Replacing Smart Mover is a one-time project, and the ongoing cost will be higher than what you pay today. Smart Mover was an unusually capable tool for its price, which is exactly why this is a real change. It also carries limitations and risks that have grown over the years. What you get back is automation built on a modern platform: easier to change when your workflow changes, easier to connect to the rest of your systems, and built to the security standards expected today. Starting early gives you time to plan both.
What you can do now
- Write a short description of what your Smart Mover flows do: what starts them, which systems they connect, and what they move or change. A plain description is more useful to us than the Smart Mover configuration file.
- Share it with your account manager or WoodWing partner, so we can propose a replacement for each flow.
- If you run Smart Mover on macOS, plan a move to Linux or bring your migration forward.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to sign up for EBES?
No. Your agreement moves to EBES automatically on 27 March 2027. If you do not want EBES, let your account manager know.
Does the price change?
No. EBES costs the same as you pay today. If you sign a plan with WoodWing to replace Smart Mover, we credit your EBES fee against that project for up to 12 months.
Can I still buy Smart Mover or add new flows?
No. EBES covers existing installations only. We do not sell Smart Mover to new customers and do not support new installations or new or expanded flows.
Will WoodWing fix bugs in Smart Mover?
No. We will help you find a workaround where we can, but we no longer change Smart Mover itself.
Why can WoodWing not keep supporting Smart Mover?
Smart Mover was developed outside of WoodWing, on a technology we do not use anywhere else in our portfolio. Keeping it alive would take resources we would rather invest in the platform our customers build on, and parts of it rely on platform behavior that is being retired. It also no longer fits the security and risk standards we hold ourselves to going forward. WoodWing Connect is where that investment goes instead.
What happens after 31 March 2029?
EBES ends and WoodWing no longer provides any support for Smart Mover. Make sure your flows have moved to a replacement before then. If you purchased a Smart Mover license, you keep that license and may continue to run the software unsupported, at your own risk. If you have a subscription, your right to use Smart Mover ends with it.
