We’d like to inform you of a behavior observed when editing string fields across multiple files within the Studio for InDesign plugin. Specifically, Boolean values appear to reset or clear unexpectedly when there are differing values across selected files. This has been reported and confirmed through testing.
Impact
When selecting multiple files in Studio for InDesign and editing shared string fields, any Boolean values that do not match across the selected files are cleared or appear reset in the properties panel. This results in the impression that Boolean data has been lost.
- Upon saving changes, these Boolean values may be unintentionally overwritten with a default state unless rechecked manually.
- This behavior occurs specifically in Studio for InDesign and InCopy.
- Boolean values remain consistent only if all selected files share the exact same Boolean state prior to editing.
This issue has been reproduced in Studio for InDesign version 19.0.4 build 24.
Workaround
To prevent unintended data loss:
- Avoid batch editing string fields across multiple files if Boolean fields are not aligned.
- Within Studio Server / Dialog setup, limit the “Multiple Objects” setting
- As a temporary measure, Studio Web App can be used for editing multiple Boolean fields.
Boolean values may naturally vary between files. In such cases, extra caution is advised.
Next Steps
We’re actively reviewing this behavior with the development teams. It is our goal to improve this functionality. In the meantime, we encourage partners and users to report any additional examples or edge cases to help prioritize enhancements.
If you have questions or would like assistance implementing the workaround, please reach out to our Customer Success team.
Thank you for your continued feedback and partnership.
Kind regards,
Dani Leyhue
