When creating, editing, or adding users, files or any type of other object in Enterprise Server, be aware of the following restrictions:
- The name cannot be longer than 63 characters
- Some characters are not allowed
Name length restriction
Objects stored in Enterprise Server cannot have a name that is longer than 63 characters.
When a name is entered that is longer than 63 characters in the Maintenance pages or in any of the client applications, characters after position 63 are automatically removed.

An object in Enterprise Server may not contain any of the following characters:
Character | Description |
---|---|
' | Single quote - straight |
` | Single quote - back |
‘ | Single quote open - curly |
’ | Single quote close - curly |

@ | At |
# | Pound / number / hash |
$ | Dollar |

^ | Carat |
* | Asterisk |

? | Question mark |
When typing any of these characters in the client applications, the character is automatically removed.
Integration with Elvis
Another way of adding files to Enterprise Server is by adding them from Elvis.
However, fewer characters are considered to be invalid in Elvis than in Enterprise. When a file is added from Elvis to Enterprise therefore, the name of the file in Elvis Server is adjusted by removing those characters that are invalid in Enterprise.
