LVSID-920 Embedded images with the same name are combined incorrectly.

LVSID-921 After opening an archived layout from Assets with Display Performance set to High Quality, the placed images look striped/corrupted.

Note for LVSID-921: This fix only works together with the following versions of Studio for InDesign and InCopy:

Version 18.0.4 for Adobe 2023, or any higher version of version 18.
Version 17.0.9 for Adobe 2022 (scheduled to be released in January 2024), or any higher version of version 17.

LVSID-924 Support for POSIX paths is not working correctly.

Note for LVSID-924: During the development of InDesign 2024, Adobe announced that they will move from the deprecated HFS path format (in which a colon is used as the directory delimiter) to the POSIX format (in which a slash is used as the directory delimiter) in their SDK during the 19.0 time frame.

This change has since been added as an option to the pre-release of InDesign 19.2, and will become permanent in InDesign 19.3.

During the testing of POSIX paths in InDesign 19.2, issue LVSID-924 was found and subsequently fixed. This fix can be used in InDesign versions 19.0, 19.1, 19.2, and 19.3, or any higher version of InDesign 19.

Note that this change is mostly an internal change, but users might come across this format in locations such as the Links panel.

The following change has been made in this release of Assets for InDesign:

Placing files from Assets Server: additional fix for placing files with long path references on Windows. When placing a file by dragging it from Assets onto a layout in InDesign, the file is stored on the local system. Assets for InDesign then uses the path to the file as a reference.

On Windows, when this path reference exceeds the limit of 260 characters, the file cannot be placed and an error is shown.

Previous versions of Assets for InDesign already contained fixes for this, but an additional fix has now been added. In it, the length of the file name is now also shortened when the placed file is stored locally to ensure that the path reference does not exceed the Windows limitation.

In certain scenarios, this can result in behavior that is different compared to earlier versions. This is described in Placing files with a long file name on a layout in Windows using Assets for InDesign.

Super users can now be allowed to perform an Abort check out action on layouts. When a user checks out a layout for editing in InDesign by using the 'Open in InDesign' command in Assets, the layout can only be made available again in Assets by closing it in InDesign by the same user. This presents problems when the layout is needed by other users but the user who checked out the layout forgets to check in the layout, or that user is absent.

To make the layout available again, users with the role of super user can now be allowed to perform an Abort check out action on the layout from within Assets. This can be done by setting the following option to true in the cluster-config.properties.txt file of Assets Server:

Note: This requires Assets Server 6.85 or higher.

allowSuperusersToAbortCheckoutLayouts=true

When set, the Abort Check-out command in the context menu of the checked out file becomes available for these users.

The following features have been added in this release of Assets for InDesign:

Adding multiple references to Assets Server to log in to. It is now possible to create references to multiple instances of Assets Server. This makes it possible to choose the server to log in to from the Log In dialog when manually logging in. Creating and managing these references is done in the preferences:

InDesign Preferences > WoodWing Assets > WoodWing Assets Server URL

Using the preference, the following can be done:

Add references to different instances of Assets Server.
Update existing references.
Rearrange references by dragging them up or down.
Delete a reference.

The references are stored in a list which can be distributed to other machines.

For more information, see Configuring Assets Server references in Assets for InDesign.

Logging in: controlling if Assets for InDesign should log in to Assets Server. Before starting working with Assets for InDesign, users need to log in to Assets Server on which the files are stored that they want to work with. When InDesign is started or a local document is opened, users are therefore asked to log in to Assets Server.

However, when working on layouts that do not contain images that are stored in Assets Server, logging in is not required and the steps for logging in might get in the way. Controlling if Assets for InDesign should log in to Assets Server can now be done through the following preference:

InDesign Preferences > WoodWing Assets > Log In > Log In when Launching InDesign or Opening a Local Document

By default the preference is enabled. Each time InDesign is started or a local document is opened, Assets for InDesign starts the log-in process.

To prevent this from happening, disable the preference.

Placing files: replacing multiple occurrences of a placed file with another file. When a file is placed on a layout, there may come a time when it needs to be replaced by another file. This can simply be done by dropping another file onto it and/or using the place gun. When this is done for a file that is placed multiple times on the layout, Assets for InDesign will now detect this and will offer you the option to update all occurrences of that file with the new file.

LVSID-616 Unable to choose from multiple servers in the Log In dialog.

LVSID-650 No Log In dialog should appear when working on layouts with no files placed from Assets.

Known issues

The following known issue exists for this release of Assets for InDesign:

Working with files stored in Studio: Frames for a Planned image that is placed multiple times are not updated when placing a database image into them.
