Studio Server regularly stores files in temporary locations. As a maintenance task, it can sometimes be preferable to clean up unwanted files from some of these locations.
The overview below lists the different locations where temporary files are stored and how they can be safely cleaned up.
System temp folder
On each physical system, Studio Server uses the system temp folder for storing files by using one of the following prefixes:
- ent
- sips-
- req
- WW_SOAP_Client_response_
Notes:

What to remove: Any of these files that are older than 3 days can be safely removed.
Work folders of Studio Server
EXPORTDIRECTORY
Configuration file: config.php (recommended: config_overrule.php file).
Description: Used for exporting various types of documents to.
What to remove: It depends on the customer's workflow how this folder can be safely cleaned.
SESSIONWORKSPACE
Configuration file: config.php (recommended: config_overrule.php file).
Description: Used by the text editor of Studio.
What to remove: All files can be removed as long as all users have checked-in all their articles.
Note: Finding files in this folder while no articles are checked-out by users could indicate a defect. If so, please contact WoodWing support.
TEMPDIRECTORY
Configuration file: config.php (recommended: config_overrule.php file).
Description: Used for storing various types of temporary files and folders stored during various workflow operations.
What to remove: Files older than 3 days can be safely removed.
Note: Finding many files in this folder with the same prefix could indicate a defect. If so, please contact WoodWing support.
OUTPUTDIRECTORY
Configuration file: configserver.php (recommended: config_overrule.php file).
Description: When this path is configured, Studio Server uses this folder to write logging files to. System administrators might want to have some history here to verify the system's health.
What to remove: Files and folders older than the wanted history can be safely removed.
WEBEDITDIR
Configuration file: configserver.php (recommended: config_overrule.php file).
Description: Used by InDesign Server for storing previews and write-to-fit calculations, and by Studio Server to create workspaces when articles are edited in Studio.
What to remove: All files can be removed as long as all users have checked-in all their articles.
Note: Finding files in this folder while no articles are checked-out by users could indicate a defect. If so, please contact WoodWing support.
