Inline Notes are notes that are added within the text of a Print article in Studio.
They can be used for adding a note to either yourself or to other contributors as a reminder, comment or reference, or as a question, instruction or feedback about the text in the article.
Inline Notes appear as an icon in the text editor. When the icon is clicked, the content appears in a pop-up window.

Note: Adding an Inline note in a Print article is one of the ways of adding a comment or note in Studio. Other methods include adding a comment in a Digital article, adding a note to a Dossier, and adding a comment to any file anywhere in Studio. For more information, see Adding comments in Studio.
Recognizing Inline Notes
Inline Notes in a Print article can be recognized by the Inline Note icon in the editor.

Opening an Inline Note
You work with Inline Notes by opening them. To open an Inline Note, click the icon in the text. The Inline Note will open in a pop-up window.
Closing an Inline Note
To close an Inline Note, click anywhere outside of it, click the Close button, or click the X-button in the top right corner.
Saving changes
Changes that are made to the text in the Inline Note are automatically saved.
Creating an Inline Note
Inline Notes can be created in the following ways:
- By creating a new, empty Inline Note
- By converting selected text to an Inline Note
- By copying and pasting an existing Inline Note
Creating a new, empty Inline Note
Step 1. Place the text cursor at the position in the text where you want to add the note.
Step 2. In the toolbar, click Insert Note and from the menu that appears, choose Insert note.

The Inline Note is created.
Step 3. Open the Inline Note by clicking its icon. Add some text.
Converting selected text to an Inline Note
Step 1. Select the text in the article that needs to be converted to an Inline Note.
Step 2. In the toolbar, click Insert Note and from the menu that appears, choose Convert selected text to a note.

An Inline Note is created and the selected text is removed from the text in the article and added to the Inline Note.
Step 3. (Optional) Open the Inline Note by clicking its icon. Work on the note in some way.
Copying and pasting an existing Inline Note
An Inline Note can also be created by copying and pasting an existing Inline Note. This can be useful when the same comment or feedback needs to be given for multiple sections in the article.
Deleting an Inline Note
To delete an Inline Note, do one of the following:
- Place the text cursor after the icon in the text and press Backspace.
- Open the Inline Note and click Delete.
