Operating systems

Notes:

The operating systems listed are valid for the Web server running Enterprise Server and the File Transfer Server. When the database and the Application Server run on different machines, Enterprise does not add extra restrictions to the operating system that runs the database. When both are running in the same box the choice of the operating system is limited.

For all operating system flavors, it is recommended to use the 64-bit version to gain better performance. However, for Enterprise Server 9.8, the 32-bit flavors are supported as well.

Verify that any software that is installed by default by the operating systems such as PHP, Web browsers, and so on is also compatible with Enterprise Server. Update these applications when needed.

The compatibility of non-WoodWing products with operating systems has not been verified; please check this separately.

¹ Windows 32-bit and 64-bit are both supported. Most recommended is 64-bit because of performance reasons. When using Windows 64-bit, also install SQL Driver 64-bit and IIS 64-bit. For VC9 compiled versions only, PHP and ionCube are available in 32-bit only but IIS 64-bit can run PHP in a 32-bit application pool. Because Enterprise Server runs on PHP it is running 32-bit, even when using a 64-bit version of Windows/IIS. For VC11 compiled versions (and newer), both 32-bits and 64-bits are supported for PHP and ionCube.

² Service Pack is required by SQL Driver 3.x for PHP.

Microsoft SQL

Note: To connect to Microsoft SQL Server, the Application Server must run on a Windows Server as well. This is because the database driver for Microsoft SQL Server is not maintained for MacOS and Linux.

ionCube is used by Enterprise Server to encrypt some of its PHP modules.

PHP

PHP 5.6	Yes	For Windows, 64-bit versions of PHP 5 are not supported because those are (and will remain to be) experimental. For Windows, only use VC9 or VC11 compiled versions of PHP 5.5, or use VC11 compiled versions of PHP 5.6, else PHP is not compatible with ionCube Loader 5.0.14.
PHP 5.5	Yes	PHP 5.5 is out of maintenance (regular and security), see php.net - Supported Versions. We therefore advice to upgrade to PHP 5.6. For Windows, 64-bit versions of PHP 5 are not supported because those are (and will remain to be) experimental. For Windows, only use VC9 or VC11 compiled versions of PHP, else PHP is not compatible with ionCube Loader 4.6.1.
PHP 5.4	Yes	Supported on Linux only. Since PHP 5.3, ISAPI is no longer supported. Use FastCGI instead. For Windows, 64-bit versions of PHP 5 are not supported because those are (and will remain to be) experimental.
