Enterprise Server regularly stores files in temporary locations. As a maintenance task, it can sometimes be preferable to clean up unwanted files from some of these locations.
The overview below lists the different locations where temporary files are stored and how they can be safely cleaned up.
System temp folder
On each physical system, Enterprise Server uses the system temp folder for storing files by using one of the following prefixes:
- ent
- sips-
- req
- WW_SOAP_Client_response_
Notes:

What to remove: Any of these files that are older than 3 days can be safely removed.
Work folders of Enterprise Server
Tip: (For Enterprise Server 10.1 or higher only) Easily manage and configure settings of all configuration files by adding them to a single configuration file.
EXPORTDIRECTORY
Configuration file:config.php.
Description: Used for exporting various types of documents to.
What to remove: It depends on the customer's workflow how this folder can be safely cleaned.
SESSIONWORKSPACE
Configuration file:config.php.
Description: Used by the Multi-Channel Text Editor of Content Station.
What to remove: All files can be removed as long as all users have checked-in all their articles.
Note: Finding files in this folder while no articles are checked-out by users could indicate a defect. If so, please contact WoodWing support.
TEMPDIRECTORY
Configuration file:config.php.
Description: Used for storing various types of temporary files and folders stored during various workflow operations.
What to remove: Files older than 3 days can be safely removed.
Note: Finding many files in this folder with the same prefix could indicate a defect. If so, please contact WoodWing support.
OUTPUTDIRECTORY
Configuration file:configserver.php
Description: When this path is configured, Enterprise Server uses this folder to write logging files to. System administrators might want to have some history here to verify the system's health.
What to remove: Files and folders older than the wanted history can be safely removed.
WEBEDITDIR
Configuration file:configserver.php
Description: Used by InDesign Server for storing previews and write-to-fit calculations, and by Enterprise Server to create workspaces when articles are edited in Content Station (Aurora).
What to remove: All files can be removed as long as all users have checked-in all their articles.
Note: Finding files in this folder while no articles are checked-out by users could indicate a defect. If so, please contact WoodWing support.
Tip: For automatically removing these files, periodically run the AutoCleanWebEditDir Server Job. See Working with Enterprise Server Jobs in Enterprise Server 10.
filestore/_BRANDS_
Info: This feature is not available in Enterprise Server 10.6 or higher.
Configuration file: The folder is part of the file store which is configured through the ATTACHMENTDIRECTORY option in the config.php file.
Description: For all objects created in the database, a HTML link file is created in the filestore/_BRANDS_ folder. This is done to ease access to content in the extreme exceptional case where the database gets totally corrupted or inaccessible.
What to remove: When the customer does not want this feature, the _BRANDS_ folder can be cleared any time, such as every evening or every weekend.
