When working on a complex, multi-Task Smart Mover Process I often find that running one Task at a time really helps me with testing and debugging…. and the "Edit Process” window user interface makes this real easy to do.
You will notice the first column in “Tasks In this Process” list is a check box. When “checked” that Task will run when the Process is run… but when “un-checked” that Task will not. Additionally, as a short-cut, you can just click the “check mark” at the top of the list to “check" all the individual Task check boxes… or click the “strike-through check mark” to "un-check" them all.
So to test a Process, I will run the Process with just the first Task in the list set to run… and check my results. Then run the Process with just the second Task set to run, and so on. This way, if you do find a problem with a particular Task you can usually just correct that Task and rerun it.
Another option on the Edit Process window is the “Test Mode” check box. Check this option during testing and error notification emails will not be sent. Also, any error files that would normally be sent to the Process error folder will not be moved. Make sure you "un-check" this option once your testing is complete.
