The following new features have been introduced in Smart Connection for Adobe CC 2015 (version 11.2.0 build 42):
- Smart Caching: automatically downloading a routed file. When a file is routed to a user, it is typically downloaded from the server at the moment the user opens it for editing. This means that the user has to wait until the download is complete before working on it can start. In situations where the connection to the server is slow (for example when working from a remote location) or when large files need to be downloaded, it can take quite a while before the download is complete.
Smart Caching can be used to make this process more efficient by downloading a file to a user's system immediately when it is routed. Downloading the file takes place in the background so the user can continue working with Smart Connection. When the user then wants to work on the file, it is immediately available because it is already downloaded.
Note: Smart Caching for Smart Connection is made possible by using the Smart Caching functionality of Content Station 10. It requires the use of the Content Station Desktop application; Content Station 10 itself is not needed.

- Scripting: support for setting the PDF profile when a PDF is generated. The PDF profile that is used for generating a PDF can now also be set through scripting. This is done through the new 'setPdfProfile' method.

The following new features have been introduced in Smart Connection for Adobe CC 2015 (version 11.1.0 build 38):
- InCopy: opening a placed article while bringing it to front in Layout view. When an article is placed on a layout, it could be that other objects on that layout are partially or fully placed over it.
When opening an article and viewing it in Layout view, article components can therefore be partially or fully obscured from view, or shown in a dimmed state. As a result, any changes made to the article content is not visible in Layout view or the article component could potentially not be accessible from Layout view, for example to open it for editing.
To resolve this, all components of the article that is opened can be brought to the front in Layout view. This makes the content of the article fully visible and each article component accessible for editing.
Bringing the article components to the front in Layout view is done at the time when the article is opened and requires the following new preference to be enabled:
Smart Connection > Options > Bring InCopy Articles to Front in Layout View

- InCopy: new preference 'Bring InCopy Articles to Front in Layout View'. A new preference has been added named 'Bring InCopy Articles to Front in Layout View'. When enabled, opening an article that is placed on a layout will bring all article components of that story to the front in Layout view. This makes sure that all article components are fully accessible and not obscured by other layout objects. For more information, see Opening articles in InCopy using Smart Connection.
- Support for push message notifications through RabbitMQ. Integrating RabbitMQ in Enterprise Server makes it possible to instantly push message notifications — such as when a user updates the properties of a file — to client views of all users who are connected to Enterprise. This way, users will immediately see any changes that another user makes.
Smart Connection for Adobe CC 2015 includes support for RabbitMQ.

Adding an Elvis image to Enterprise
Images that are stored in Elvis can now be directly added to Enterprise by using Smart Connection (in previous versions an Elvis image first needed to be added to a Dossier in Content Station to make it part of Enterprise).
Adding an Elvis image to Enterprise can now be done in various ways:
- By adding an image manually:
- Add the image to a Dossier (using Content Station)
- Place the image on an InDesign layout and choose Smart Connection > Create Image
- Place the image on an InDesign layout and make it part of an article when checking in the article
- By adding an image automatically:
- Place the image on an InDesign layout
- Open an InDesign layout with a placed Elvis image and make it part of an article when checking in the article
Whether an Elvis image is added automatically or should be added manually is controlled through a setting in the WWSettings.xml file or through the Preferences.
Depending on how Enterprise is configured, the Elvis image is used as a shadow object, as a copy, or as a variant.

Changes
No changes have been implemented in Smart Connection for Adobe CC 2015 (version 11.0.5) build 24.
Known issues
This release improves the Page Style/Prefix functionality. In a Brand that contains Editions, each Edition may have its own unique Page Style and Prefix. We already supported different Page Styles and Prefixes within an Edition (after a so-called page section), but still some limitations exist:
- Only a limited number of page styles are supported: "1,2,3,...", "I,II,III,...", "i,ii,iii,...", "A,B,C,...", "a,b,c,...".
- Leading zeros in the page number are not supported (not as a prefix, nor as a style).
- Regarding compatibility with older minor versions (such as version 11.0.4): when clients running version 11.0.5 opens documents from a previous minor version or when a client running an older minor version opens a document created with version 11.0.5, only the page order is guaranteed to be preserved; the page style or prefix may be lost.

Numbering options added to the Planning interface
A PageNumber element has been added to the SmartEditorialPlan wsdl. Its purpose is to support variants of human readable page number variations. Currently supported options are:
- Prefixes of page numbers
- Styles: roman lower case, alpha numeric lower case, Arabic, roman upper case, alpha numeric upper case
This improvement includes some limitations:
- No support for using a mixture of styles and prefixes in the same planned layout.
- Page style and page prefix cannot be made Edition dependent.
To benefit from this improvement, the following is required:
- Smart Connection for CC 2015 version 11.0.4 or higher
- Enterprise Server 10.1.1 or higher or the upcoming Enterprise Server 10.0.3
Smart Connection will transform the page numbers of the planned pages to actual page numbers in InDesign.

The following new features have been introduced in Smart Connection for Adobe CC 2015 (version 11.0.2 build 9):
- Restoring an archived layout in Elvis 5 Server: new option for restoring images. When restoring an archived layout from Elvis 5, images can now also be copied from Elvis to Enterprise and directly placed on the layout.
This can be configured in config.php file of the Elvis Content Source Plug-in.
The default behavior is that of previous versions: the image is copied in Elvis and is linked via a shadow object in Enterprise Server.

- Include all database images when packaging a layout. When packaging a layout that is stored in Enterprise, the default behavior is that only those database images are included that are visible on the layout.

To force all database images to be included in the package, a configuration change can be made in either Enterprise Server or for an individual Smart Connection installation.

Known issues
- Recommended display performance setting in InDesign CC 2015.4. The default setting of the Display Performance option in InDesign CC 2015 was changed by Adobe to High Quality Display (View > Display Performance). Please note that this setting triggers all linked images to be downloaded by Smart Connection when a layout is opened. We therefore recommend to use Typical Display instead to prevent this from happening and thereby improving performance.

Note about installation steps after upgrading InDesign/InCopy CC 2015.4 to a higher version of CC 2015. Due to a different installation approach of InDesign and InCopy it is not needed to run the Smart Connection installer after upgrading InDesign/InCopy CC 2015.4 to a higher version of CC 2015. |
