This article is part of a series that describes how to use Elvis 5 with Adobe InDesign.
In this article, the process of editing Elvis files that are placed on an InDesign layout is described.
Editing files
Files that are stored in Elvis can be opened for editing in InDesign in the same way as any other placed file. Any changes that are made to the file are automatically saved back to Elvis.
Step 1. Open the file in your favorite editor.
- Select one or more files on the layout or in the Links panel and do any of the following:
- Choose Edit > Edit Original
- In the Links panel, click the Edit Original button
- Alt+double-click the file with the Selection tool
- Select a file and choose Edit > Edit With.
During this process, the files are checked-out in Elvis: no other users can modify them.
Step 2. Make your change, save and close the files.
Step 3. Return to InDesign.
When working with the Pro client, you are now done: the changes are automatically saved to Elvis. Other users can modify the file again.
Step 4. (Optional, only needed when using the Desktop client) Check-in the layout in Elvis as described in Opening files for editing in Elvis (file check-out and check-in).
Once the file is checked-in, other users can modify the file again.
