For more information about placing images, see Placing, cropping or removing images in the Print editor of Content Station 10.
Changes
The following changes have been made for the release of Content Station 10.34 build 152:
- Placing and cropping images on a layout: option for enabling the feature. The Enterprise Server plug-in 'Automated Print Workflow' has to be enabled in Enterprise Server. When this option is not enabled, the Cropping tools on the layout and the Images panel cannot be accessed.
- Placing and cropping images on a layout: articles are expected to be in a Dossier. In order for images to be placed in the Print editor, it is now expected that the article is in a Dossier. When this is not the case, the message 'No Dossiers found' is shown in the Images panel and a button is provided in the panel to create a new Dossier. The article and layout are then automatically added to the new Dossier.
- Placing and cropping images on a layout: Dossier images shown in the Images panel now relates to where the article is opened. In previous versions of Content Station, the Images panel showed all images that are placed on the layout and all images from all Dossiers that the article was part of.

New features
The following new feature has been added to Content Station 10.33 build 147:
It is now possible to place an article on a layout from within Content Station. The tools for doing this are available by opening a layout in fullscreen mode. This can be done anywhere in Content Station, including the Publication Overview application.
When viewing the layout in fullscreen mode, setting the switch at the top of the screen to 'Place articles' makes the 'Place articles' panel appear and puts the layout into a mode in which articles can be placed on it.
The panel lists all articles that are in the same Brand as the layout and contains tools for quickly finding the article that needs to be placed.
On the layout, any frame in which an article can be placed is indicated by an orange dotted border. Also, when hovering the mouse over such a frame, its background will turn dark gray and an icon will appear.
Note: An article can only be placed in a frame if that frame is part of an InDesign Article.
An article is placed by dragging it from the panel onto the frame on the layout.
Figure: Placing an article onto a layout by dragging it from the Place articles panel (A) onto a supported frame on the layout (B). The Place Articles mode is accessed by setting the switch at the top of the screen to 'Place article' (C).
For more information, see Placing articles on a layout in Content Station 10.
Changes
The following changes have been made for the release of Content Station 10.33 build 147:
- Different modes when viewing a layout in fullscreen mode. When viewing a layout in fullscreen mode, the layout can now be set to different modes. This is controlled through a switch at the top of the page.
- Place article. This puts the layout into a mode in which articles can be placed onto the layout.
- Show status. For viewing the Workflow Status of placed objects.
- The Search Filter now also remembers the chosen object type and Workflow Status. When using the Filter to search for files, settings such as the chosen Brand, Category and Issue that were used in the most recent search were already remembered and applied the next time the user logs in or when the Search page is accessed. From Content 10.33 onwards, the object type and Workflow Status are now also remembered.
- Improved notification when a file cannot be opened for editing because the Desktop app is not available. In this scenario, the following notification was shown in previous versions:
Files of this type cannot be checked-out
The text of this notification was incomplete and has been changed to the following:
The file could not be checked-out. Possible causes:
• Checking-out files of this type is not supported.
• The Content Station Desktop App or Chrome extension are not running.
- Dossier view is shown when closing an article that was opened in a Dossier. When an article is opened for editing in a Dossier and the article is closed again, previous versions of Content Station showed the Search page. From Content Station 10.33 onwards, the Dossier from which the article was opened is now shown.
- Descriptive error is shown when Content Station cannot be loaded. When Content Station cannot be loaded, most of the time it is because an incorrect URL has been defined for connecting to Enterprise Server. Previous versions of Content Station showed a blank white page. From Content Station 10.33 onwards, a descriptive message is shown:
Content Station 10 could not be loaded
Please contact your system administrator
Tip: Check your network connection and if Enterprise Server is correctly configured in Content Station (see config.js > serverUrl).
- Double-clicking an image in the Layout preview mode now opens the cropping tools for that image. This works the same as clicking the icon for the cropping tools.

New features
The following new feature has been implemented in Content Station 10.29 build 137:
The Smart Caching feature of Content Station 10 allows a file to be automatically downloaded onto a user's system when the file is routed to that user. Downloading the file takes place in the background while the user continues working with Content Station 10.
By default this feature only works when a file is routed to an individual user but it can now also be enabled for user groups of no more than 7 users (this limitation is to make sure that the performance of the system is not negatively impacted).
For each user group that has 7 users or less, Smart Caching can be enabled. This is done through the Smart Caching page in the Management Console.
For more information, see Configuring Smart Caching for Content Station 10.

Content Station 10.28 build 133
Release date: 10 August 2017
Content Station version: 10.28 build 133
Content Station Server plug-in version: build 70
Content Station Desktop App version: 2.0.0 build 24
Content Station Desktop App - Chrome extension: 1.0 build 30
Downloads
The download files for Content Station 10 can be found in the Release announcement.
New features
The following new features have been implemented in Content Station 10.28 build 133:
When a file is routed to a user, it is typically downloaded from the server at the moment the user opens it for editing. This means that the user has to wait until the download is complete before working on it can start. In situations where the connection to the server is slow (for example when working from a remote location) or when large files need to be downloaded, it can take quite a while before the download is complete.
Smart Caching can be used to make this process more efficient by downloading a file to a user's system immediately when it is routed. Downloading the file takes place in the background so the user can continue working with Content Station 10. When the user then wants to work on the file, it is immediately available because it is already downloaded.
For more information about Smart Caching, see:
Articles that contain an anchored object can now also be opened in the Print editor.
Note that the text of each anchored object is displayed in a separate component, and that each of these components directly follows the component that they are part of.
Example: Suppose an article contains the following components:
When opening the article in the Print editor, the following components are shown:
|
Anchored objects in an article component can be recognized by an anchor icon.
Note that anchored objects cannot be copied and pasted.
For more information, see Working with articles in Content Station 10.
When creating a new article, it can automatically be added to a new Dossier or an existing Dossier. This is done through the Dossier field in the Create New Article window.
Note: The Dossier field can be added to the workflow dialog in Enterprise Server through the Dialog setup.
The field can be used in the following ways:
- Choose New Dossier to create a Dossier with the same name as the article and to automatically add the article to that Dossier.
- Choose an existing Dossier to add the article to it (type any part of the name to quickly find a Dossier).
- Leave the field blank to not add the article to a Dossier.
Custom functionality could already be added to context menu commands or to the Print Editor in Content Station 10, but can now also be added in the form of Custom Applications.
As with the default applications such as the Publication Overview and the Trash Can, Custom Applications are accessed through the Applications menu and run in a full Content Station 10 window, including a header and Back button.
Actions can be performed within the application through the use of parameters.
Example: You can add custom reports based on data from Enterprise Server, display external sources, and so on.
To get you started, 2 simple samples are provided (see the contentstation > sdk > samples folder).
One of the samples contains a page with a button that displays some random parameters on the page. The header contains two buttons: one that displays a message and another that updates text on the page.
For more information, see:
When a file is downloaded by the Content Station Desktop app, the progress is now displayed in a Download Progress window.
Files are downloaded when:
- They are opened for editing and don't exist on the system yet.
- When they are routed to a user (as part of the Smart Caching feature).
The window is displayed automatically when a file is downloaded and closed automatically when the download is completed.
The functionality of the Content Station Desktop app has been extended with the following features:
- Options have been added to the icon menu for pausing or enabling Smart Caching, opening the Download Progress window and for opening the Settings window.
- The Settings window has been extend with settings for Smart Caching.
- New options have been added to the General Settings window: setting the language of the Desktop app and configuring file caching settings.
For more information, see Using the Desktop app of Content Station 10.
Changes
The following change has been made for the release of Content Station 10.28 build 133:
- Desktop app: proxy settings removed, connecting to proxy server is now done by using system settings. The Content Station 10 Desktop appis used for communicating with other applications, including Enterprise Server. When the connection to Enterprise Server is done through a proxy server, the proxy settings that are configured in the operating system on which the Desktop app is installed are used. Because no configuration is therefore required anymore in the Desktop app, the proxy settings have been removed.
Note: On Windows, an additional configuration step is now needed. For more information, see Connecting the Content Station 10 Desktop app to Enterprise Server through a proxy server.

The following options have been added to the SDK of Content Station 10:
- ContentStationSdk.injectObjectsInDossier(dossierId, objects). When object information is already available (for example: from a server response), the developer can inject those objects into the search results of the Dossier instead of calling a refresh method from the SDK.
- param _dossierId_ `String` id of a Dossier in which objects are injected. Usually an ID from a Dossier that is already available in 'onInit' and 'onAction' methods
- param _objects_ `Array<EnterpriseObject>` array of (Enterprise) objects (for example: objects from GetObjects response)

- A file always belongs to a particular Brand
- A file can belong to one or more Issues
- A file can be part of one or more Dossiers
- Images and articles can be placed on one or more layouts
- Images can be part of one or more articles
When making changes to a file it is important to be aware of all the places where a file is used in Enterprise. This makes it possible to determine whether or not these changes negatively affect the way the file is used in these other locations.
This can now be done by referencing the 'Used in' field in the Properties pane of Content Station 10.
Figure: The Used In field in the Properties panel shows where in Enterprise a file is used.
For more information, see Viewing in which Enterprise locations a file is used using Content Station 10.
When a file is part of multiple Dossiers, all these Dossiers can now be quickly opened by right-clicking the file and choosing 'Open Dossiers'.
For more information, see Working with Dossiers in Content Station 10.
The following keyboard shortcuts have been added:
- Cmd/Ctrl+D Move a selected file to the Trash Can
- Cmd/Ctrl+E Check-out a selected file for editing
- Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+C Make a copy of a selected file
- Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+G Send selected files to the next Workflow Status
- Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+L Check-in a selected file for editing
- Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+O Open a selected Dossier
- Enter does one of the following:
- When a field is active in a window: confirms entering data in that field (for example when a selection in a list is active).
- When the dialog window or message is active: confirms that you want to continue (similar to clicking OK, Yes, Copy, Send, and so on).
- Escape close the window or message without making any changes (similar to clicking Cancel)
Tip: For easy reference, any available keyboard shortcuts for a file are listed in the context menu for that file:

For an overview of all keyboard shortcuts, see:
Changes
The following change has been made for the release of Content Station 10.25 build 123:
- Using Escape and Enter for workflow dialogs and messages. Workflow dialogs and messages can now be closed without performing an action by pressing Escape (similar to clicking Cancel). Pressing Enter either confirms closing a workflow dialog or message (similar to clicking OK or Save), or when a field in a workflow dialog is active, confirms entering data in that field.
- Keyboard shortcuts: The keyboard shortcut for adding a selected file to a Dossier has been changed from Cmd/Ctrl+H to Cmd/Ctrl+J.

For more information about searching for files, see Searching for files in Content Station 10.
Changes
The following change has been made for the release of Content Station 10.23 build 111:
- Dossier option removed from Filter when working in a Dossier. When working in a Dossier, the content of the Dossier can be filtered by using the Filter options on the left side of the page. One of the options is to filter on Dossiers, but because a Dossier cannot be part of a Dossier, this button is superfluous in the context of working in a Dossier. The 'Dossier' option is therefore now hidden from the Filter in this scenario.
Figure: When working in a Dossier, the 'Dossier' option is hidden from the Filter (A).

New features
The following new feature has been implemented in Content Station 10.22 build 109:
- Applying a scaling factor to the text displayed in an article that is edited in the Print editor. In an effort to provide an extra way of controlling how the text in an article in the Print editor is displayed (and thereby improving the readability of that text), a scaling factor is now applied. The default scaling factor is 1.125, meaning that the size of all text is increased by a factor of 1.125. This factor is configurable. For more information, see Controlling the size of fonts displayed in the Content Station 10 Print editor.
Changes
The following changes have been made in Content Station 10.22 build 109:

New features
The following new features have been introduced in Content Station 10.21 build 107:
An article is typically part of a story, which consists of:
- The article holding the text of the story
- The layout(s) on which the article is placed (for articles that are used in print)
- Related images and/or spreadsheets
These files are typically kept together in a Dossier and a Dossier itself can hold multiple articles.
When working on a story or working with a Dossier, it can be beneficial to see how each article is used as a story and which files are related to the story. For this, the Story View mode in a Dossier can be used.
Figure: Viewing two articles in Story View mode in a Dossier. Both articles are placed on a layout.
Using this view allows you to quickly see:
- The article as it is placed on the layout(s), including any Editions it may be part of (for articles that are used for print)
- All files related to the article (only for articles placed on a layout and only as long as these files are in the same Dossier as the article)
From this view, you can then:
- Easily open the article for editing
- Work on any of the files, for example by right-clicking them and accessing the context menu
For more information, see Showing an article as a story in Content Station 10.
Next to viewing a Dossier in thumbnail view and list view, a Dossier can now also be displayed in Story view. When using this view, any articles that are present in the Dossier are shown as a story.
For more information, see Showing an article as a story in Content Station 10.
Figure: A third viewing mode has been added to Dossiers for accessing the 'Story view'.
Changes
The following change has been made in Content Station 10.21 build 107:
- Print editor: small user interface changes. In an effort to improve the design of the Print editor, various minor changes have been implemented. New features
The following new features have been introduced in Content Station 10.18 build 104:
Files in Enterprise are typically related to other files in Enterprise:
- A Dossier can contain one or more files
- A file can be part of one or more Dossiers
- An image or article can be placed on a layout or be part of a Publish Form
- A layout can have one or more articles or images (that are also stored in Enterprise) placed on it
It is important to be aware of these relationships, for example to see if other files are affected when making changes to a particular file.
Viewing such relations, known as links, can be done by using the Linked Files panel in Content Station 10.
Figure: The Linked Files panel shows to which files in Enterprise a file is linked.
For each file, the relation to the selected file is shown: 'Part of' for files that are part of a Dossier, 'Placed on' for files that are placed on a layout, and so on.
For more information, see Viewing to which Enterprise files a file is linked using Content Station 10.
Files can now be opened in a new Browser tab by doing one of the following:
For single files
- Right-click a file and from the context menu choose Show in new tab
- Select a file and use the following keyboard shortcut:
- Mac OS X: Cmd + double-click
- Windows: Ctrl + double-click
Typically, all files will be opened in a Search window with the exception of the following:
- Articles, these are opened in the Print Editor
- Dossiers, these are opened as a regular Dossier window
For Linked Files
When using the Linked Files panel to see which Enterprise files are linked to a selected file, all files that are shown in the panel can be opened in a new Browser tab by clicking the corresponding option at the top of the panel.
Figure: The 'Show in new tab' option in the Linked Files panel can be used for opening all shown files in a new Browser tab.
For more information about working with linked files, see Viewing to which Enterprise files a file is linked using Content Station 10.

The page is part of a newly introduced Management console for Content Station 10 (see below) and replaces the componentDefs.xml file used in previous versions.
The page allows you to easily control which article components a user should be able to add to an existing article, how many times these components can be added and which paragraph style should be applied to the text in the component.
For more information, see Adding article components to an existing article in Content Station 10 - configuration.
To make the process of configuring certain aspects of Content Station easier and more user friendly, a Management console has been added to Content Station 10.

New features

It is now possible to have a file of practically any type automatically open in its application when the file is checked-out. In previous versions this functionality was restricted to InDesign layouts only; all other files needed to be opened manually.
Note: The only current restriction is opening InCopy files: these are opened in the text editor of Content Station, it is not possible yet to open these in InCopy.
This makes it possible to open Word files directly in Word, images directly in Photoshop, and so on. The application that the file is opened with is the default application for that file type on the system.
To use this feature, Content Station 10 needs to be run in Google Chrome and the Content Station Desktop App needs to be installed together with its Chrome extension.

New features
The following new feature has been introduced in Content Station 10.10 build 88:
Text editor: overset is now indicated
Articles that are used in a print workflow are added to a designated area on a layout. In order to fill that area with the right amount of text the article needs to contain the right number of lines: a state known as 'copyfit'. When the article does not contain enough lines to completely fill the area, we speak of 'underset', while 'overset' indicates that the article contains too many lines and that therefore not all text will fit the available space.
Any instances of overset in an article are now shown in the following ways:
- The bar that shows the height of an article component is colored red.
- A divider appears in the text itself to indicate exactly which text is overset.
Figure: Whenever overset text exists, this is displayed in the following ways: the article component bar is colored red (A) and a line divides the affected text from the rest of the text (B).

Content Station Pro and Basic will be merged in 2017 as announced at the recent WoodWing Xperience. Because of this we are reviewing the current license and price model of Content Station 10. Furthermore the Publication Overview Application has evolved to a primary part of Content Station 10 and is much more than just the status overview it was back when we introduced the Content Station Free Edition. Content Station 10.8 build 85
Release date: 19 October 2016
Content Station version: 10.8 build 85
Content Station Server plug-in version: 10.8 build 37
Content Station Desktop App version: 1.0.0 build 8
Downloads
The download files for Content Station 10 can be found in the Release announcement.
New features
The following new features have been introduced in Content Station 10.8 build 85:
With Content Station 10, a user can already open a file for editing it in its native application. During this process, the file is downloaded to a local folder from where the user manually has to open the file in its native application.
To further streamline this process, layouts can now be automatically opened in InDesign by making use of a newly introduced Content Station Desktop App. This App is installed locally, runs in the background and connects with Google Chrome through a Chrome extension. Note that Smart Connection needs to be installed in InDesign.
Simply double-click the layout in Content Station to open it in InDesign, edit it and check-in the layout from within InDesign by making use of Smart Connection.
For more information, see:
To better make users aware of workflow features such as sending an article to another user, setting it to a different Workflow Status or checking-in an article, an action button is added to the text editor from which these options can be easily accessed.
The Action button is placed next to the icon for the Styles panel.
Figure: The Action button can be used to quickly access various workflow options.
Depending on how Content Station is configured (see next new feature), the default option for the Action button is as follows:
- Send to. When articles are saved automatically.
- Check in. When articles need to be saved manually.
For more information, see Working with articles in Content Station 10.
The default behavior of Content Station 10 is that any changes that are made to an article are automatically saved and that the article is automatically checked in when it is not edited for a longer period of time.
However, some workflows require that the user sets specific properties when the article is checked in (such as the Workflow Status).
To make this possible, the auto save feature can now be disabled. Content Station 10 will then works as follows:
- The article is never automatically saved.
- The article needs to be manually saved by checking-in the article or by manually saving a version. When checking in the article, it is also closed.
- The Action button for the article defaults to 'Check In'.
- When navigating out of the editor while changes are not yet saved, users are informed that any changes will be lost should they continue without first saving these change.
For articles that are placed on a layout, a preview of that layout is shown when working on the article in the text editor.
When the layout is part of several layouts or Editions, the layout or Edition to view can now be chosen by clicking on the layout name.
Figure: Choosing the Edition to view in the Layout preview of the text editor.
When a file is routed to a user, a notification is now shown.
Clicking the notification will open the Inbox in a new Web browser tab from where the file can be accessed.
Please note the following:
- This feature requires Enterprise Server 10 with RabbitMQ installed
- Notifications are not supported in Internet Explorer
- No notifications are received when all Content Station tabs are closed

Any article, image, and spreadsheet that is placed on a layout (and stored in Enterprise) can be highlighted when viewing the layout in fullscreen mode or in the Publication Overview Application. The color used is the color of the Workflow status that is assigned to the object.

Figure: Articles and images highlighted in the Publication Overview application.
Layouts can now also be viewed in spread view when viewing them in fullscreen mode. Switching between single page view and spread view can be done through the menu in the top-right corner of the page.
For any text that has a character style applied, the text editor will show that text using the font, font style and font size of that character style.

New features
The following new features have been introduced in Content Station 10.1 build 66:
The text editor now also shows the total number of characters, words, and paragraphs in an article.
When viewing the search results in list view, a column named ‘In use by (icon)’ can be shown. In it, a pencil icon is shown for each file that a user has opened for editing and a lock icon for each file that other users have opened for editing. The same icons are shown on top of each thumbnail when viewing the search results in thumbnail mode.
Users are now able to unlock files that have been opened for editing by right-clicking a file and choosing 'Abort checkout'. Scenarios in which this can be useful are when files are locked because another user has forgotten to check-in the file or when you have opened a file for editing and the Web browser has subsequently crashed.
