Improving Elvis 4 Server performance by disabling Spotlight on Mac OS X

This article only applies to Mac OS X servers, not Windows servers.

Since you probably don't use Spotlight on your Elvis server, you can improve performance by disabling it. Or at least by excluding your Elvis Hot Data and Elvis Data folders from being indexed by Spotlight.

Disabling Spotlight

The primary method on Mac OS X Lion is using launchctl, this will require the administrative password:

sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.metadata.mds.plist

For more info on how to disable Spotlight on other Mac OS X versions, search Google.
