Downloads
The download files for Content Station 9.8.6 can be found in the Release announcement.
New features
The following new feature has been introduced in Content Station 9.8.6 build 280:
When using an image in an article for print or for publishing on the Internet, the original image often needs to be cropped and/or resized. On top of that, the size of the image that is used on the Internet is usually much smaller than the same image that is used in print.
Using Content Station 9.8.6 in combination with Enterprise Server 10.1, each image that is used in a Publish Form or in an article as an inline image can now be individually cropped and resized, without affecting the original image.
For more information, see Cropping and resizing an image in Content Station 9.

Changes
The following change has been implemented for the release of Content Station 9.8.4 build 273:
Due to a change implemented in issue EN-87521, Content Station 9.8.4 on Mac OS X requires Adobe AIR 20 or higher. It cannot be used in combination with Adobe AIR 19 or earlier.
When a Dossier is created from a Dossier template, articles now inherit the same Category as that of the new Dossier. All other files inherit the same properties as those of the files in the Dossier template.
Example: A Dossier template contains an article and a layout template which have both been assigned to Category 'A'. When the Dossier is created in Category B, the article is assigned to Category 'B' while the layout template is assigned to Category 'A'.
For more information about Dossier template behavior, see Dossier template behavior in Enterprise 9.
Previews of articles containing XML tags are no longer blocked. Instead, a preview of the plain text in the article is displayed.

Content Station 9.8.0 build 246 Quick Patch
Release date: 12 February 2016
Info: This Quick Patch is for Content Station Web only.
Fixed issue
The following issue has been fixed in Content Station Web 9.8.0 build 246 (Web only):
EN-86878 Content Station Web: Dossier view freezes after Flash Player update to 20,0,0,306
Summary: After the update of Adobe Flash Player to version 20, build 306, Content Station Web becomes unstable. After opening some Dossiers and / or switching between Dossiers, the application becomes unresponsive and crashes internally.
The problems occur on Mac OS X and Windows, in all Web browsers, but not with the desktop (AIR) version of Content Station. The crash / freeze occurs in the core of Flash Player. We have submitted a bug report to Adobe and hope that Adobe will fix it as soon as possible in the Flash Player.
To fix the issue in Content Station we had to disable a small piece of functionality. The side effect of this fix is logged in the following issue:
EN-86881 Auto-scrolling not working for Dossier Labels on Dossier page
Summary: When more Dossier Labels are added than can be displayed, a scroll bar appears. When adding more labels, the behavior should be that the last row (the row to which the Label is added) is automatically shown. This functionality is now broken. As a consequence, newly added labels after the first two rows are no longer visible without manually scrolling them into view.
A fix for EN-86881 is planned for Content Station 9.8.2.
Content Station 9.8.0 build 237
Release date: 28 January 2016
New features
The following new feature has been introduced in Content Station 9.8.0 build 237:
The Automated Print Workflow feature makes it possible for Content Station users to place articles and images on a layout as well as crop images.
This has the following benefits:
- Editors can immediately edit a story in the context of the page.
- The number of steps (touch points) in the workflow is reduced.
- The designer can focus on designing the layout instead of having to place articles.
- Less InDesign installations are needed.
Available features
The following features are available:
- Instantiate a Layout Template and place the content of a Dossier on it
- Place the content of a Dossier on an existing layout
- Place or replace an image
- Crop an image
Note: The Automated Print Workflow is especially useful for publishers of news papers and for publishers of magazines with a template based workflow. Placing content of a Dossier obviously requires a Dossier-based workflow and is therefore not (or less) applicable to publishers of glossy magazines and not applicable to publications that do not make use of a Dossier-based workflow.
See this feature demonstrated in this short video:
Rules and restrictions
- Articles can only be placed in frames that are grouped together in an InDesign Article and that have the correct Element Label assigned.
Step 1. Select all frames on the layout that belong to the same article.
Step 2. Access the Articles panel (Window > Articles).
Step 3. Drag the frames onto the Articles panel or click the + button in the panel.
Step 4. Assign Element Labels to each frame or — when these have already been assigned — make sure that the correct labels have been assigned. Each frame should have the label assigned that corresponds to the content that it is going to hold, such as 'head', 'intro', 'body' and so on. For more information, see Working with Element Labels in Smart Connection.
- Articles and images need to be assigned to the same Issue and Edition.
- Images can only be automatically placed when only one image is present in the Dossier. When multiple images exist, no images are placed.
- Spreadsheets are not placed.
Requirements
- Enterprise Server 9.8 or higher
- Content Station 9.8 or higher
- InDesign CC 2014
Configuration
Enable the following Server plug-ins in Enterprise Server:
- InDesign Server Automation 1
- Automated Print Workflow

Content Station 9.7.0 build 232
Release date: 28 December 2015
New features
The following new features have been introduced in Content Station 9.7.0 build 232:
It is now possible to choose the application with which to open a file through the Open With command from the menu.
Figure: Choosing 'Preview' as the application to open a JPG file with.
To make this work, multiple applications need to be defined in the ApplicationMapping.xml file.
In the following example, 2 applications are defined for opening JPG files:
<applicationMapping>
<application location="/Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS6/Adobe Photoshop CS6.app" extension="jpg"/>
<application location="/Applications/Preview.app" extension="jpg"/>
</applicationMapping>
When right-clicking a JPG file and choosing Open With... or when choosing File > Open > Open With..., both applications are therefore shown, listed in the order in which they are defined.
Notes:
|
The tabs of the Publication Overview Application and the Planning Application now show the name of the selected Brand.
This makes it easier to identify the Brand in which you are working when multiple tabs are open.
Figure: Two tabs are opened for the Publication Overview Application and two for the Planning tab. The Brand names make it easy to see with which Brand you are working in each of them.
The Publication Overview Full Layout view now shows the name of the Layout below each page.
Quickly adding files to a Dossier can now be done by using the Browse button in the toolbar when viewing the Dossier in Content view.
Figure: When viewing a Dossier in Content view (A), clicking the Browse button (B) allows you to quickly add files using the Browse window (C).
The functionality of creating custom context menu commands or custom toolbar buttons in the Multi-Channel Text Editor has been expanded to display popup windows with HTML content.
The aim of the HTML content is to offer the user additional UI components to interact with, such as buttons that perform a particular task.
Examples: Allow the user to rotate or crop images, show the Elvis Pro client, and so on.
Showing the window as a popup
To show the window as a popup window, use displayMode="popup"
in the URL.
Example:
<ObjectContextMenuActions>
<ObjectContextMenuAction label="Html Popup" url="{SERVER_URL}config/plugins/CustomHTMLPopup/customHTMLPopupCS.html?t={SESSION_ID}&ids={OBJECT_IDS}" objtypes="Image" displayMode="popup"/>
</ObjectContextMenuActions>
API calls
The following API calls can be implemented to communicate with Content Station after the actions in the popup window have been performed:
- close. This will close the popup window .
- cancel. This will close the popup window.
- open. This will open an object when the HTML in the popup window provides the id (can be multiple id's, comma-separated).
- refresh. This will do a refresh of the object when the HTML in the popup window provides the id (can be multiple id's, comma-separated).
- refreshPreview. This will do a refresh of the InDesign preview. This will only work if the correct workspace id is sent back to Content Station.
Note: refreshPreview will only work for the context menu on Placements (since only those have the WORKSPACE_ID variable.)
Notes
- When the popup window is open, the main Content Station application is disabled. It is enabled again when the popup window is closed.
- The Escape key will not close the popup window.
- This feature is available for Content Station AIR and for Content Station Web.

Content Station 9.6.0 build 196
Release date: 3 August 2015
New features
The following new feature has been introduced in Content Station 9.6.0 build 196.
Inline article compare
With the Inline Article Compare feature, a version of an article is opened and compared with another version of that same article. Any differences that are found are displayed in the opened article in a way that is similar to Adobe Track Changes.
Figure: Comparing a version of an article inline with another version of that same article.
This feature can be seen as an alternative to using Adobe Track Changes. The Inline Article Compare feature looks very similar to using Adobe Track Changes but contains some major differences and is more limited in use.
Inline Article Compare
- The content of the latest version of an article is checked against the content of another version of that same article.
- When an article is opened, any existing Track Changes are accepted.
- When an article is closed, any made changes are "accepted": no Track Changes information is stored. As a result, the structure of the article is kept simple and the file size low.
- While editing the article, differences or newly made changes cannot be "accepted" or "rejected" as can be done when using Adobe Track Changes.
- The Inline Article Compare feature is currently only available in Content Station, not in Smart Connection for InDesign or InCopy. This means that finding differences between different versions of an article that has been used in the Inline Article Compare can only be done in Content Station.
Adobe Track Changes
- The changes are stored within the structure of the article. This makes all changes and information about these changes readily available when editing the article in other applications such as InDesign or InCopy, but this also increases the size and complexity of the file.
- While editing the article, differences or newly made changes can be "accepted" or "rejected".
For more information, see the following articles:
- Comparing articles in Content Station 9
- Comparing InCopy article versions inline in Content Station 9
- Configuring the Inline Article Compare feature of Content Station 9
Changes
The following changes have been implemented in Content Station 9.6.0 build 196:
Articles containing graphic components can now be opened for editing
Articles that contain a graphic component (a frame that only contains an image, typically created by placing an image in InDesign or InCopy and turning it into an article component) can now be opened for editing. This allows all article components to be edited except for the graphic component which is shown as grayed-out and with an icon:
For more information see Opening, saving and closing articles in Content Station 9.
Publication Overview Application
The design of the Publication Overview Application has slightly changed: the toolbar on the left side of the Full Layout view mode has been moved to the top in order to create more space for viewing the layout.

Release date: 14 April 2015
New features
The following new features have been introduced in Content Station 9.5.1 build 153:
Files can now be opened directly in the Publication Overview Application instead of first opening the Publication Overview Application and having to search for the layout and/or page that you are after.
To do this, use one of the following methods:
- Right-click a layout, image or article and choose Open in Publication Overview.
- Select a layout, image or article and do one of the following:
- Choose File > Open > Open in Publication Overview
- On Mac press Cmd+Shift+Alt+O
- On Windows press Ctrl+Shift+Alt+O
Note: When a layout is opened this way, the first page is shown; when an article or image is opened, the first page on which the item is placed is shown.
For more information about using the Publication Overview Application, see The Publication Overview Application in Content Station 9.
Excel files that are placed on a layout can now be opened from the Publication Overview Application by right-clicking them in the Full Layout preview and choosing 'Open' from the context menu.

When specific paragraph styles are set up for creating numbered lists and bulleted lists, it is important that the user uses those styles and not instead uses the buttons in the toolbar for creating such lists.
To that purpose, the buttons for creating lists can be hidden from the toolbar through a new Server feature:
new Feature( 'MCEHideListButtons' ),
Figure: The list buttons hidden in the toolbar.
For more information, see Hiding the buttons for numbered and bulleted lists in Content Station 9.
A new option named 'escape' has been added to the syntax for adding a custom menu command to text. It can be used to define if Unicode characters in the URL will either be converted or left untouched. Possible values are "true" or "false".
Example: The text in the URL contains the character 'ž'.

Content Station 9.5.0 build 131
Release date: 19 January 2015
New features
The following new features have been introduced in Content Station 9.5.0 build 131:
In a multi-channel workflow, the same story is used in multiple Publication Channels.
However, each Publication Channel has its own rules and restrictions, such as text formatting, writing style (especially headlines), article length (restricted for print, 'unlimited' for Web), image quality (low for Web, high for print), and so on.
As a result, a story that is published for one Publication Channel cannot be directly used for another Publication Channel (think of Web versus print). However, much of the content of a story that is used in one Publication Channel can very well be used as a basis for creating the story for use in another Publication Channel.
For this purpose, such content can be imported when creating a new article in Content Station.
Example: A Publish Form for a Web story contains the following components:
A new article is created for print by importing the following components from the Web story:
Once the article is created, additional article components and high-resolution images are added as needed, the title is re-written in the style for the print publication and the length of the body text is adjusted to ensure copy fit. The content of the Web story is un-touched. |
The creation of a new article is based on an article template.
In order to import specific content from a particular story, text variables are added to the article template: one for each story component (such as the story title, the intro component, the body component and so on).
The definition of the text variable controls which component of the story is imported into the component of the article. Typically this is the content of a related component (the body text of the Web story is imported into the body text of the print article), but it is also possible to combine multiple components during import, for example by importing the 'header' and 'body' components into a single 'body' component.
See this demonstrated in this short video:
For more information about this feature, see Creating a new article in Content Station 9 by importing content from another Publication Channel.
Content Station users who work on remote locations and who are connected to Enterprise Server through a slow connection can suffer from poor performance (such as long waiting times) when working on articles, especially when these articles include previews generated by InDesign Server.
To improve performance, articles can be compressed before they are sent over and uncompressed when they are opened. This is controlled by 2 new features in the configserver.php file: one for defining which users should be seen as remote workers (for which articles will be compressed), and another for defining which users should be seen as local workers (for which articles will not be compressed).
For more information, see Improving the Multi-Channel Text Editor performance for Content Station 9 users on remote locations.
The WWSetting.xml option named 'Font' now also supports font name definitions. This allows you to display the text that is used throughout the Content Station application in that font.
Example: Here, the font named 'Comic Sans MS' is used:
Figure: The Sign In window showing the default font (left) and showing the Comic Sans font (right). |
For more information, see Overriding the default font used by Content Station 9.
Malayalam is a language spoken in India. Fonts for this language work somewhat differently than any custom installed font. To properly support Malayalam fonts in Content Station (such as in file names and in articles), a font package is therefore provided in a separate file (/style/malayalam.swf).
This file is provided as part of the installer for Asian (CJK) languages.
Content Station needs to be configured to use this file through the following WWSettings.xml option:
<Setting name="Font" value="style/malayalam.swf"/>
For more information, see Content Station 9 full installation.
When Content Station is configured for Middle Eastern support — by which text in an article is displayed from right to left — the keyboard navigation is also reversed: pressing the right-arrow key on the keyboard moves the cursor to the left and pressing the left-arrow key moves the cursor to the right.
If you prefer to reverse this movement to the default navigation direction (pressing the right-arrow key moves the cursor to the right and pressing the left-arrow key moves the cursor to the left), additional keyboard shortcuts can be assigned.
For more information, see Reversing keyboard navigation for Middle-Eastern (right-to-left) support in Content Station 9.
By default, Content Station downloads up to 15 files at a time.
Example: Downloading multiple files occurs when previews need to be shown in the Publication Overview Application.
On some systems, downloading such a high number of files at the same time can cause performance issues.
This default value can now be changed through the following option in the configserver.php file:
new Feature( 'ContentStationNumberOfSimultaneousDownloads', 5),
For more information, see Controlling the number of simultaneous downloads in Content Station 9.
When a user selects a file in a Document pane, not only is the metadata and (when available) the preview of that file obtained from the Server, but the same is also done for 4 other files:
- When in List view mode: the 2 files preceding the selected file and the 2 files directly following the selected file.
- When in Thumb view mode: the files to the left, right, above and below the selected file.
This way, when the user selects one of these 4 files the data is readily available.
This default value can now be changed through the following option in the configserver.php file:
new Feature( 'ContentStationNumberOfItemsToPrefetch', 8),
For more information, see Controlling the number of files for which previews and metadata are pre-fetched in Content Station 9.
When selecting files in a Document pane (such as the one in a Dossier, the Search Application or the Inbox), the total number of selected files are now shown together with the total files and total displayed files.
Figure: The number of selected files (A) is now shown in front of the number of the total found files and the total displayed files, as shown here in the Document pane of a Dossier.
The background color of the article components can now be set to transparent.
Figure: When opening the Color picker (A), you can now choose transparent (B).
For more information about using the article preview, see Previewing files in Content Station 9.
When posting a message to Twitter, one or more images can now be included.
See this demonstrated in this short video:
For more information, see Publishing to Twitter with Content Station 9.
Changes
The following changes have been implemented in Content Station 9.5.0 build 131:
Info: This feature requires Enterprise Server 9.4.0 or higher.
The Dossier page for a Publication Channel of type 'print' or 'Adobe DPS' has been re-designed in order to:
- Better guide the user in what to do when no content has been assigned to the channel yet. This is done by presenting the user with information on how to proceed when accessing the Publication Channel for the first time.
Figure: The Dossier page for an Adobe DPS Publication Channel with no content assigned.
- Better show the articles that have been assigned to the channel so that it is clear exactly how it is published. This is done by:
- Showing the assigned articles in full, similar to Publish Forms
- Adding a Preview pane
- Adding a 'Files' pane, consisting of a Document pane and a Properties pane
- Adding more tools to the toolbar that are related to working with articles
Figure: The Dossier page for a Publication Channel of type 'print' with an assigned article.
- Better differentiate the page from the Dossier Content page. In previous versions of Content Station, there was very little difference between these pages, making it hard for users to see exactly what they were working on.
When a Dossier is opened and a new article is created, the New Article dialog box now always appears.
The 'Import text from' option in this dialog box allows users to automatically import content from another Publication Channel.
When a Content Station user opens multiple articles that are placed on the same layout, makes changes to these articles and subsequently refreshes the layout preview for an article, the changes to all articles edited by that user are now immediately visible.
In previous versions, changes to articles other than the one currently viewed were only visible once a version of the article was saved.
Note: Changes made by other users are still only visible once a version is saved by that user.
For more information, see .Previewing files - Using the layout preview.
When in previous versions of Content Station a user had articles open for editing and the application crashed or a network error occurred, the articles remained checked-out in Enterprise and were opened as read-only at the moment the user logged in.
In order to work on the article again, it needed to be unlocked through the 'Abort Checkout' option. However, users for which the Abort Checkout option had been disabled through an Access Profile were not able to do so.
When this scenario occurs in Content Station 9.5.0, the articles are automatically unlocked at the moment the user who was working on the files logs in again.
The user is then also given the option to open the articles again for editing.
Content Station now supports all attributes of the proxy address settings in the WWSettings.xml file.
For more information, see Connecting Content Station 9 to Enterprise Server through a proxy server.
When previewing an article that is placed on multiple layouts and/or Editions, the lists for choosing the layout/Edition combination now consists of a single list.
Also, after making a choice, the preview is automatically updated.
Figure: Choosing the layout and Edition is now done from a single list (A).
For more information about using the article preview, see Previewing files in Content Station 9.

The order of unsorted search results is as follows:
- When using Solr and filling in search terms, the order is according to the score by Solr (best match first).
- When using Solr without any search term (such as when using Browse mode) the order is by Modified date (latest first).
- When not using Solr, the order is by Modified date (latest first).
The following keyboard shortcuts have been added for working in the Multi-Channel Text Editor (use Ctrl on Windows and Cmd on Mac OS):
- Ctrl/Cmd + left arrow: move cursor to the beginning of the line of text.
- Ctrl/Cmd + right arrow: move cursor to the end of the line of text.

EN-86878 Content Station Web: Dossier view freezes after Flash Player update to 20,0,0,306 1
1 Summary for EN-86878: After the update of Adobe Flash Player to version 20, build 306, Content Station Web becomes unstable.

New features
The following new features have been introduced in Content Station 9.4.0 build 92:
The Publication Channel Overview shows all article components of a particular story for each Publication Channel to which that story has been targeted.
Figure: The Publication Channel Overview shows all article components that are targeted for each Publication Channel. Here, a story is targeted to 3 different Publication Channel. Some article components are used in more than one channel.
The side-by-side display makes it possible to clearly see which article components are used per channel and whether or not an article component is re-used.
In case an article is re-used, the content of it can be checked to see if is suitable for the targeted channel.
Should an article component need to be edited, it can be opened for editing from within the Publication Channel Overview.
See a demonstration of the Publication Channel Overview in this short video:
For more information, see Comparing a story between Publication Channels using the Publication Channel Overview in Content Station 9.
The Multi-Channel Text Editor now supports displaying text from left to right (in previous versions, right-to-left support was limited to metadata properties only).
For information about enabling right-to-left support for Content Station, see Middle Eastern (right-to-left) support in Content Station 9.
When publishing a story to WordPress, the published URL can be viewed by clicking the Properties button in the Dossier. This URL now shows the URL structure as defined on the Permalinks page (WordPress Settings > Permalinks).
Figure: In this example, the Permalink settings in WordPress have been set up in such a way that the story title (A) is included in the WordPress URL for that story. This structure is now also reflected in the URL that is shown when clicking the Properties button (B) in the Dossier.
For more information about Permalinks in WordPress, see the WordPress documentation: Using Permalinks.

Content Station 9.3.0 build 76
Release date: 14 July 2014
New features
The following new features have been introduced in Content Station 9.3.0 build 76:
In cases of overset text, indicators in the Editor pane now visually display where the overset starts and which lines are affected by it:
- A horizontal line indicates from which line the overset starts: everything below the line does not fit the frame and will not be visible.
- A vertical red bar indicates the lines that are affected.
Info: This feature requires Content Station 9.3 or higher, Enterprise Server 9.3 or higher and InDesign Server.
For more information, see Copyfitting text in Content Station 9.
Selected text can now be quickly made bold and/or italic by using new buttons in the toolbar of the Multi-Channel Text Editor or by using their keyboard shorts.
Figure: Buttons in the toolbar of the Multi-Channel Text Editor for applying bold or italic formatting to text.
For more information, see Formatting text in bold or italic using Content Station 9.
Note: This feature can be enabled or disabled through the Access Right named 'Set Basic Formats' (part of the Typography group).
It is now possible to add and remove components in articles that are placed on a layout.
Note: Article components can only be removed if they are not placed. When attempting to remove an article component that is placed a warning is shown to inform the user that this action cannot be performed.
The size in which text is displayed when viewing an article in Visual mode — the mode which shows the text in the formatting that has been applied to it — can now be restricted to a minimum and maximum size.
This can be done through the following options in the WWSettings.xml file:
<Setting name="EditorMinFontSize" value="xx"/>
<Setting name="EditorMaxFontSize" value="xx"/>
This way, the following practical issues of viewing text are avoided:
- Text in a very large font size may increase the height of an article component in such a way that the article components that follow it are pushed out of view
- Text in a very small font size may become difficult or impossible to read
Figure: On the left: an article is shown using unrestricted font size settings. Note the large font size of the header and the small font size of the other components, especially the body text. On the right: the same article shown with a minimum font size set to make the body text better readable, and a maximum font size set to limit the amount of space that the header takes up. Even with these adjusted font settings, the user will still get a good impression of how the article will look when published.
For more information, see Restricting the font size of articles viewed in the Visual Mode of Content Station 9.
The following keyboard shortcuts have been introduced:
Feature | Mac OS | Windows |
---|---|---|
Applying bold formatting to text in the Multi-Channel Text Editor | Cmd+B | Ctrl+B |
Applying italic formatting to text in the Multi-Channel Text Editor | Cmd+I | Ctrl+I |
Opening file properties dialog box | Cmd+Shift+I | Ctrl+Shift+I |
Changes
The following changes have been implemented in Content Station 9.3.0 build 76:
Handling of duplicate file names
The rules around the use of duplicate file names have been modified in order to bring more clarity around this concept.
In short, the following rules now apply:
-
When a Dossier, layout, Layout Module, InDesign Library or any type of template is assigned to an Issue, its name must be unique compared to an object of the same type that is already assigned to that Issue.
-
When a file of any type is added to a Dossier and a file of the same type is already present with that name, Enterprise automatically re-names the added file by adding a numeric postfix.
-
Enterprise allows manually removing the postfix of automatically renamed files.
- When a file is moved from a Task to the Dossier that the Task is in, the use of duplicate file names is allowed.
For a detailed explanation, see Using duplicate file names in Enterprise 9.
Viewing articles in Visual Mode: restricting the minimum and maximum size of displayed fonts
By default, Content Station now restricts the minimum and maximum size of the display of fonts when viewing an InCopy article in Visual Mode (the mode which shows the text in the formatting that has been applied to it).
The following sizes are used:
- Minimum size = 10pt
- Maximum size = 32pt
This means that:
- Any font that is smaller than 10pt will be displayed in a size of 10pt
- Any font that is larger than 32pt will be displayed in a size of 32pt
When using Content Station 9.3 therefore, text sizes may appear different compared to viewing the same text in previous versions of Content Station.
The minimum and maximum font size can also be manually set, as explained in Restricting the font size of articles viewed in the Visual Mode of Content Station 9.
Note: These settings only affect the way the font size is displayed when viewing the article in the Multi-Channel Text Editor; the size of the font in the actual article is not affected.
Keyboard shortcuts
The keyboard shortcut for accessing the Properties dialog box of a file has changed:
- Old shortcut: Cmd+I (Mac OS) or Ctrl+I (Windows)
- New shortcut: Cmd+Shift+I or Ctrl+Shift+I (Windows)
Known issues
For the newly introduced features of Enterprise 9.3.0 no translations are available in Portuguese Brazilian. These are displayed in English instead.

The method of setting up a default article has changed: instead of it being based on a single article template for each Brand, multiple article templates can now be set up within a Brand. The role of the componentDefs.xml file has also changed.
Content Station now determines which article template to use based on the following context:
- Where in Content Station the action for creating an article is triggered: within a Dossier or outside of a Dossier.
- Whether or not the combination of the properties Brand, Publication Channel and/or Category for the context match that of the article template.
Example: Clicking the Create Article button when the Twitter Publication Channel is selected in a Dossier can result in the creation of an article based on a different article template than when clicking the Create Article button when a Print Publication Channel is selected.
For more information, see Creating a default article for Content Station 9.
Article template instantiation
The behavior of how article templates are treated when a Dossier is created from a Dossier template has changed.
Behavior in previous versions:
- When a Dossier template contains a single article template, a new stand-alone article is created.
- When a Dossier template contains multiple article templates, they are all added as article templates. When the New Article button is clicked, the user is asked to choose one of the available templates to base the new article on.
Current behavior:
- When a Dossier template contains an article template (either one template or multiple templates), a reference to the original template is now created. When the New Article button is clicked, the following happens:
- When only one article template is present, that template is used for creating a new article.
- When multiple article templates are present, the user has to choose which template to use.
Keyboard shortcuts
The keyboard shortcut for checking-in a file has changed:
- Old shortcut: Cmd/Ctrl+K
- New shortcut: Cmd/Ctrl+L
Display of logged in Server instance
The Enterprise Server instance to which the user is logged in to is now displayed in the title bar of Content Station. In previous versions, this information was shown as a pop-up when hovering over the user name.

The changes not only include the availability of various resolutions, but also includes a redesign for many of the icons such as those for the file types. and those for tools in toolbars and applications on the Home page.
Figure: Some of the new icons include those for creating a new article, Task, or Hyperlink in the toolbar of a Dossier.
In addition, new icons for the following file types have been introduced:

New features
The following new features have been introduced in Content Station 9.1.0 build 33:
Files in a Dossier can now have a label assigned. These labels (called Dossier Labels) can be used to filter the Dossier to only show files that have one or more labels assigned. This way, files that are not needed for the task in hand can be quickly hidden from view, thereby making finding the files that need to be worked on more efficient.
Figure: A Dossier containing 12 files with several Dossier Labels assigned to them. The Dossier is not filtered: all 12 files are shown. The available Dossier Labels on which the Dossier can be filtered are shown in the Dossier Label bar (A), while the Dossier Labels that are assigned to a file are shown in the Labels column (B).
Figure: Using the buttons in the Dossier Label bar (A), the same Dossier as in the figure above is now filtered by Dossier Label 'photo shoot 1'. As a result, a total of 5 files are now shown (B).
See Dossier Labels demonstrated in this video:
For more information about this feature, see Filtering the content of a Dossier.
Tags (keywords) can now be added to articles that are going to be published to the Web (to a Web site running Drupal 7). Tags can be added in 2 ways:
- By choosing from tags that are generated automatically based on the content of the story
- By adding tags manually, optionally aided by an auto-complete feature or by choosing from a list of tags
Figure: Fields for adding keywords in a Publish Form. The tags to the right of each field are generated automatically.
See this demonstrated in this video:
For more information about configuring this feature, see About adding tags to Web articles.

When publishing a story to a Drupal Web site, multiple files can now be included. One of the many ways of using this is to display images in a slide show.
For more information, see Supported Drupal fields for use in Publish Form templates and Adding multiple files to a Web article.
Support has been added for publishing posts to Facebook. These can be posts with or without a hyperlink, single photos or photo albums.
In the following video, a basic post with a hyperlink is published and unpublished:
For more information, see Facebook installation and configuration and Creating a story for publishing to Facebook.
Support has been added for publishing posts to Twitter. These can be posts with or without a hyperlink.
In the following video, a post with a hyperlink is published and unpublished:

When viewing files in the Document pane while in Thumbnail View, the size of the thumbnails can now be adjusted by using the Zoom slider located in the Status bar.
Figure: The Zoom slider (A) can be used for changing the size of the thumbnails.
Notes:
|
For more information about this feature, see Changing the size of thumbnails.
When viewing related Dossiers in a Dossier, a new, empty, Related Dossier can now be quickly created by clicking the Dossier button or by choosing File > New > Dossier.

For more information see Supported Drupal fields for use in Publish Form templates.
Installation on Mac OS X 10.9 Maverick
Because of new security reasons in the latest OS X version 10.9 Mavericks, running the installer for Content Station may result in an error.
This can happen in the following scenarios:
- The security settings are too high. Go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy and select the option 'Allow applications downloaded from Mac App Store and identified developers'. This will lower the security and makes it possible to install Content Station.
Note: When running the installer with this option set, a message appears stating that this application is downloaded from the Internet and if you are sure you want to install it. Make sure to check the option 'Do not warn me again', otherwise the installation will not succeed.
- Content Station 9.0 or lower was installed. Uninstall the older version first and then install version 9.1.

Content Station 9.0.0 build 12
Release date: 12 July 2013
New features
The following new features have been introduced in Content Station 9.0.0 build 12:
Publish Forms are used for quickly and easily preparing a story in order to publish it to a particular Publication Channel. This is done by showing only the information that is relevant for that Publication Channel.
For example: The Publish Form of a news story might consist of a header, body text and an image, whereas the Publish Form for a recipe might consist of a title, a list of ingredients, a list of instructions and one or more images or videos.
Example of a Publish Form for a recipe.
See this short video of creating a story for the Web by using a Publish Form:
Drupal 7 required
Currently, Publish Forms are only used for Publication Channels that are set up for publishing to a Drupal 7 based Web site.
This also means that publishing to Publication Channels set up for print, Drupal 6 or Adobe DPS is still done by using the same method as for Enterprise 7.
Related articles
A new application named "Publish Manager" has been added. It can be accessed in the following ways:
- By double-clicking the Publish Manager icon in the Applications pane on the Home page.
- By choosing Tabs > Publish Manager
Note: This application is only available in Content Station 9 - Pro Edition.
The Publish Manager application has 2 main purposes:
- It gives you an overview of all stories and their current publish state. It allows you to see which stories have been published, which have been updated, and so on.
- It allows you to manage your stories. This includes publishing, unpublishing, changing properties, routing to other users, and more.
Figure: The Publish Manager. In this example, it has been filtered to show only the stories with status "New" (stories that have not yet been published).
Note: Stories are represented by Publish Forms. In other words: the files that appear in the Publish Manager are all files of type "Publish Form". This also means that stories for Publication Channels that do not make use of Publish Forms do not appear in the Publish Manager.

Additional characters can be added to the Special Character set of the Multi-channel Text Editor by adding the following section of code to the WWSettings.xml file:
<SpecialCharacters>
<SpecialCharacter description="Special character description">
<Value><![CDATA[Special character value]]></Value>
</SpecialCharacter>
</SpecialCharacters>
The following 2 values need to be added:
- Special character description. Text that should be displayed in the tooltip for the character in the Character Set
- Special character value. The character to use.
Note: The character value is the HTML character entity of the special character. Typically, this is number consisting of 2, 3 or 4 digits preceded by '&#' and succeeded by a semicolon ';'. For reference, consult for instance Wikipedia: List of XML and HTML character entity references.
Example: In the following section of code, the Yen sign is added (Unicode 165): <SpecialCharacters> <SpecialCharacter description="Yen sign"> <Value><![CDATA[¥]]></Value> </SpecialCharacter> </SpecialCharacters> |
Track Changes in the Multi-channel Text Editor now display a tooltip showing the name of the user who made the change and the date on which the change was made.
When a Next Style is set up for a Paragraph style in InDesign or InCopy, the Multi-channel Text Editor uses that style in the following scenarios:
- When pressing Enter.
- When applying a paragraph style to a selection of paragraphs: the first paragraph will have the selected paragraph style applied and the paragraphs that follow will have the applicable "Next Styles" applied.
Keyboard shortcuts that have been defined in InDesign or InCopy for paragraph styles or character styles are now also supported in the Multi-channel Text Editor when working on an article in which these keyboard shortcuts have been defined in InDesign and InCopy.
The following new preferences have been added:
- Spell Checker language. Lists all spell checking languages as configured on Enterprise Server. Choose the language to use for the spell checker in the Multi-channel Text Editor. This option replaces the Language button in the Multi-channel Text Editor.
- Reset All Warning Dialogs. Dialog boxes for which the "Don't Show Again" check box has been selected can be made to appear again by clicking this button.
Note: Currently the "Don't Show Again" check box is only available in one dialog box, namely the one that appears when using the "Save Original" feature when downloading multiple InDesign layouts containing placed database files.

Documentation
Starting with Enterprise 9, product documentation will be made available as online Web pages in HTML format instead of PDF files.
The structure is set up in such a way that all information for a product will be available in one location. This applies to topics such as installation, configuration, using the software, and so on.
Documentation such as an admin guide, user guide or scripting guide will therefore cease to exist: all information is available as separate topics in one location.
We think this will offer the following benefits:
- Information is not spread over multiple, separate files and locations
- Related information is cross-referenced across products
- Information is better searchable
- Feedback can be provided on each topic
- Content can be more easily and more frequently updated
Notes: This change affects all non-Elvis products, but only those products for which a new full version will be released such as Enterprise 9.0. (In other words: documentation for Enterprise versions 7 and 8 will not be transferred to Online Help but will stay available in PDF format.) We are currently still in the process of moving the documentation from the PDF format to the HTML format. While this is taking place, some or most information will still be made available in PDF format until all information is migrated to the Online Help. Our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause. |
