A major upgrade is an installation of Content Station 9 on a system on which a previous version of Content Station is already installed.
The installation consists of various steps which should be performed in the following order:
1. Installing Content Station Web
2. Installing Content Station AIR
3. Installing Enterprise Agent
4. Configuring the WWSettings.xml file
6. Enabling Enterprise Server plug-ins
1. Installing Content Station Web
The major upgrade of a Content Station Web installation consists of upgrading the Content Station Web components in Enterprise Server.
Note: You might want to make this process part of installing a major upgrade for Enterprise Server itself. (See Enterprise Server 9 major upgrade.) The rest of this article describes a scenario where the upgrade is installed as a separate step. Also, in most production environments, the new Enterprise server is initially installed next to the existing server so that the new setup can be tested before it is made live. For this explanation therefore, it is assumed that the current Enterprise Server is initially left intact and that a new Enterprise Server is installed separately for testing purposes.
Step 1. Install Content Station Web.
Note: Non-Asian languages are all languages except Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Malayalam.
Step 1a. Download Content Station Web from the software download page by downloading the file that does not have '[CJK]' in its file name.
Example: Download the file named Content Station 9.x.x Build xxx - Web instead of Content Station 9.x.x Build xxx - Web [CJK] |
Step 1b. Unzip the file and re-name the resulting folder to contentstation.
Step 1c. Copy the folder to the root folder of the Enterprise server (that means: in the same folder where the config and server folders are also located.) The location is dependent on the system and HTTP Server used (Apache/IIS), but should normally be in one of the following locations:
- Mac OS X: /Library/Web Server/Documents/Enterprise
- Windows: c:\inetpub\wwwroot\Enterprise
- Linux: /var/www/html/Enterprise
Step 1a. Download Content Station Web from the software download page by downloading the file that has '[CJK]' in its file name.
Example: Download the file named Content Station 9.x.x Build xxx - Web [CJK] instead of Content Station 9.x.x Build xxx - Web |

- Mac OS X: /Library/Web Server/Documents/Enterprise
- Windows: c:\inetpub\wwwroot\Enterprise
- Linux: /var/www/html/Enterprise
Info: This feature requires Content Station version 9.5.0 or higher.
Step 1. Download Content Station Web from the software download page by downloading the file that has '[CJK]' in its file name.
Example: Download the file named Content Station 9.x.x Build xxx - Web [CJK] instead of Content Station 9.x.x Build xxx - Web |
Step 2. Unzip the file and re-name the resulting folder to contentstation.
Step 3. Copy the folder to the root folder of the Enterprise server (that means: in the same folder where the config and server folders are also located.) The location is dependent on the system and HTTP Server used (Apache/IIS), but should normally be in one of the following locations:
- Mac OS X: /Library/Web Server/Documents/Enterprise
- Windows: c:\inetpub\wwwroot\Enterprise
- Linux: /var/www/html/Enterprise
Step 4. Set the Malayalam font for Content Station Web by enabling and defining the following setting:
- File: WWSettings.xml
- Name of option: Font
- Area: Anywhere between the
<SCEnt:ContentStation>
and</SCEnt:ContentStation>
tags - Value: malayam.swf
- Example:
<Setting name="Font" value="style/malayam.swf"/>
Step 2. Test Content Station Web by entering the new URL in a Web browser:
http://<Server URL>/contentstation
Example: http://localhost/contentstation
Step 3. Make the upgraded Content Station Web installation live by doing one of the following:
- Replace the full folder content of the old (current production) contentstation folder with the full folder content of the upgraded contentstation folder.
- Remove the old (current production) contentstation folder and rename the new contentstation folder so that it matches the name of the old (current production) contentstation folder.
- Keep the newly created folder and provide all users with the new URL. Once the new Content Station Web version is taken into production, you might want to remove the old contentstation folder.
2. Installing Content Station AIR
Note: Non-Asian languages are all languages except Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Malayalam.
Step 1. Download Content Station AIR from the software download page by downloading the file that does not have '[CJK]' in its file name.
Example: Download the file named Content Station Mac 9.x.x Build xxx - Air instead of Content StationMac 9.x.x Build xxx - Air [CJK] |
Step 2. Unzip the downloaded file.
Step 3. Double-click the Content Station installer to start the installation.
This can happen on Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) systems after running an installer which has been downloaded from the Internet (as opposed to obtaining it from an FTP site or network).
Make sure to select the option “Don’t warn me when opening applications on this disk image”.
Note: When not selecting this option, Content Station is correctly installed but when launching it, the following message appears: “Content Station” can’t be opened because it is from an unidentified developer. |
Step 4. Click Install.
The Settings window appears.
In the Installation Preferences section, the check box to automatically start Content Station after installation is selected by default.
Step 5. (Optional) Clear the check box Start Application After Installation when Content Station should not be started when the installation is completed.
In the Installation Location section, the default location is entered where Content Station will be installed:
- Mac OS X: /Applications
- Windows: C:/Program Files
Step 6. (Optional) To change the location, do one of the following:
- Manually enter a new location
- Click the Folder icon to browse to a location
Step 7. Click Continue.
Content Station will now be installed.
When Content Station is successfully installed and the check box to automatically start Content Station was cleared, a message appears that the installation is completed.
When the check box to automatically start Content Station was selected, Content Station appears.
Step 8. (Optional, for non-English Windows platforms only) Set the path to the WWSettings.xml file by installing the correct install.xml file:
From the unzipped build folders, locate the config folder and copy the correct file for your type of operating system to the folder where Content Station was installed (each file holds the path to the location of the WWSettings.xml file):
- Windows Vista: WinVista\install.xml
Note: Making use of Malayalam requires Content Station 9.5.0 or higher.
Step 1. Download Content Station AIR from the software download page by downloading the file that has '[CJK]' in its file name.
Example: Download the file named Content Station Mac 9.x.x Build xxx - Air [CJK] instead of Content StationMac 9.x.x Build xxx - Air |
Step 2. Unzip the downloaded file.
Step 3. Double-click the Content Station installer to start the installation.

- Windows Vista: WinVista\install.xml
3. Installing Enterprise Agent
Note: You can skip this step when:
|
Step 1. Since Enterprise Agent is most likely running, kill the process first so that the original file can be overwritten.
Step 2. From the downloaded Content Station AIR folder, unzip Enterprise_Agent_Buildxx_Mac.zip or Enterprise_Agent_Buildxx_Win.zip respectively.
Step 3. Copy the Enterprise Agent file to the location on the system where it is currently installed, thereby overwriting the original file. The default locations are:
- Mac OS X: Enterprise Agent.app. Add this file to the Applications folder.
- Windows: EnterpriseAgent.exe. Add this file to a folder in the Program Files folder.
Step 4. Run Enterprise Agent (Mac OS X) or EnterpriseAgent.exe (Windows) respectively.
4. Configuring the WWSettings.xml file
Add the URL of the new test location to the <SCEnt:Servers>
section of the WWSettings.xml file.
Important: Make sure to validate the WWSettings.xml file for correct content. See Validating the WWSettings.xml file.
5. Activating Content Station
Step 1. Access the License Status page in Enterprise Server.
In Enterprise Server, choose Licensing in the Maintenance menu on the left side of the screen or on the Home page.
Step 2. Click the link Add Additional Client Licenses.
The Activate page appears.
Step 3. Activate your license by choosing one of the following methods:
Step 3a. Click the Get License link.
The Activatepage appears.
Note: To continue with the automated process, a Web browser with Internet access is required. A browser connection status is displayed at the bottom of the page, indicating whether or not your current browser can be used for this process. If your browser cannot be used, check your Internet connection, such as your proxy settings, (software) firewalls, router configuration, and so on. Your browser needs to support Javascript, but you will see an error message in cases when Javascript support has been switched off.
The activated server license will be stored server-side, but the client system which runs the browser will actually make the connection to the WoodWing Activation server via Internet. This allows your server to be located in a subnetwork without internet-out access.
Step 3b. Click Next.
The Serial Number page appears.
Step 3c. From the Product list, choose Content Station.
Step 3d. Enter the serial number and number of concurrent licenses (this allows you to divide your licenses among several application servers).
Step 3e. (Optional) If you are unsure of the number of concurrent licenses available for this serial number, click the Check button.
Step 3f. Click Next.
The License Status page appears. If all has gone well, a message displays that the license has been activated successfully.
Step 3g. Return to the License Status page by clicking License Status.
Note: When activating a license offline, it takes 2 working days to process your request.
Offline activation is a 2-step process:
- Sending the activation request by email
- Processing the received activation
Sending the activation request by email
Step 3a. Select the check box I don’t have access to the Internet or I prefer activating by e-mail.
Step 3b. Click Next.

- The installation code (as provided on screen)
Step 3d. Click Cancel to terminate the process for now and wait for WoodWing to send you an activation code.
Processing the received activation
Step 3e. Repeat Steps 3a to 3d.
Step 3f. Enter the received serial number and activation code.
Step 3g. Click Next.
The License Status page appears. If all has gone well, a message displays that the license has installed successfully.
Step 3h. Return to the License Status page by clicking License Status.
6. Enabling Enterprise Server plug-ins
If additional Content Station functionality was used, enable this functionality on the new Server by enabling the following Enterprise Server plug-ins:
- PHP Preview and Metadata. For previewing images that have been uploaded to Enterprise with Content Station.
- Content Station Overrule Compatibility. For using Issues that have the Overrule Brand option set.
7. Testing the installation
- To test Content Station Web, enter the URL of the test server in a Web browser:
http://<server URL>contentstation
Log in to test its functionality.
- To test Content Station AIR, launch the Content Station application. Log in to test its functionality.
8. Making the Server live
When you have installed the new Enterprise Server next to the production Server, the new Server will have to be made live at some stage. To start using the new Enterprise Server in a live production environment, do one of the following:
- Replace the full folder content of the old (current production) Enterprise Server with the full folder content of the new Enterprise Server.
- Remove the old (current production) Enterprise Server folder and rename the new Enterprise Server folder so that it matches the name of the old (current production) Enterprise Server folder.
- Keep the newly created folder and provide all administrators with the new URL and update the WWSettings.xml files for the client application users with the new path to the Server. Once the new Server is taken into production, you might want to remove the old Server installation.
