For certain types of files that are stored in Enterprise, a preview is saved. These include the following types of files:
- Images (including PDFs)
- InDesign layouts
- InDesign layout templates
- InDesign Layout Modules
Sometimes you might want to download that preview onto your local system in order to work on it in some way.
Different methods exist to achieve this, each with different output formats.
Method 1: Using the Save Preview feature for a file
This method will save the file in JPEG format.
Step 1.Locate an image or InDesign layout anywhere in Content Station for which you want to download a preview.
Step 2. Select the file and do one of the following:
- Right-click the file and choose Save Preview...
- Choose File > Save > Preview...
The Save dialog box appears.
Step 3. Browse to the location where you want to save the file preview and save it.
What is in the downloaded file?
- When the file contains multiple pages, all pages are downloaded as separate files and combined in a single .ZIP file.
- When downloading the preview for a layout containing 3 pages, a ZIP file will be created containing 3 images.
Method 2: Using the Download PDF option when previewing an article in the editor
Step 1.Preview an article in the Multi-Channel Text Editor.
Step 2. In the toolbar of the Layout Preview, click the Download PDF icon.

The Save dialog box appears.
Step 3. Browse to the location where you want to save the file preview and save it.
What is in the downloaded file?
- The PDF only contains the currently viewed page on which the article is placed.
Note: To create a download that contains all pages of the layout, do one of the following:
