New features
The following feature has been added in this release of Content Station:
- Digital articles: copying components from articles archived in Elvis. When working on an article, it is very possible that the content that needs to be added already exists in a different Digital article. It was already possible to copy components from a Digital article stored in Enterprise, but it is now also possible to copy components from Digital articles archived in Elvis.
Note: This requires Elvis 6.40 or higher as well as Enterprise Server 10.8.0 or higher.
Copying and pasting is done as follows:
Step 1. Preview a Digital article in the Pro client of Elvis.
Step 2. Select the components to copy by clicking their plus-icon.
Step 3. Press Ctrl+C (Windows) or Cmd+C (MacOS).
Step 4. In Content Station, press Ctrl+V (Windows) or Cmd+V (MacOS) to paste the copied components.
For more information, see Working with the components of a Digital article in Content Station Aurora.
Changes
The following change has been made in this release of Content Station:
- Digital articles: copying components from articles Enterprise. Copying and pasting a component in previous versions of Content Station was done clicking the Copy selection button at the bottom of the page followed by clicking the Paste icon. This behavior has changed to match the same method that is used for copying and pasting components from Digital articles stored in Elvis by pressing Ctrl+C (Windows) or Cmd+C (MacOS) for copying, and pressing Ctrl+V (Windows) or Cmd+V (MacOS) for pasting. For more information, see Working with the components of a Digital article in Content Station Aurora.

New features
The following feature has been added in this release of Content Station:
- Print editor: showing hidden characters. Print articles contain hidden characters which represent how text in the layout is going to be spaced.
Examples: Paragraph breaks, em spaces, non-breaking spaces, forced line breaks, and so on.
Having the incorrect character at a particular position can result in unwanted text spacing in the printed version. Being aware of these hidden characters is therefore very important.
Hidden characters can be shown by opening the Actions menu in the top right corner and choosing Preferences > Show hidden characters.
Note: Showing hidden characters in articles containing more than ~5000 words and/or on systems which are not very powerful can result in a (slight) decrease in the performance of the Print editor.
The following types of characters are shown:
Type | Icon |
---|---|
Normal space |
![]() |
Paragraph break |
![]() |
End of text in story |

New features
The following features have been added in this release of Content Station:

Images that are added to a Digital article in the Digital editor can be of a file type or a file size that makes them unsuitable for publishing to a digital channel.
Example: Images in Photoshop format, images in a very high resolution or file size, and so on.
To optimize such images as much as possible, an automatic process now takes place when the article is published. Images can now optionally also be cropped in the Digital editor.
- Image conversion: When an article is published, any images it contains are automatically optimized to the following characteristics:
- Format: JPG
- Image quality: 90%
- Dimension: A maximum of 2500 x 2500 pixels (or a custom size)
- Image cropping: When only part of a large image is required, cropping the image helps in making sure that the image fits best in its frame. This can be done by using the cropping tool in the Digital editor.
- Notes:
- This feature only works for images that are stored in Elvis.
- This feature requires Enterprise Server 10.6.x or any higher version of Enterprise Server, and Elvis Server 6.18 or higher.
- Image cropping is not supported when Elvis Server is installed on MacOS. When this is the case, the feature needs to be manually disabled.
- Configuration options are available in the Management Console.
For more information, see Optimizing images for publishing a Digital article in Content Station Aurora.
Figure: Cropping an image in the Digital editor.

The following components of the header can now be customized:
- The icon

- The text color of the button and badges
- The color of the menu text
Figure: Customizing the header of Content Station: the icon (A), header background (B), button background and text (C), badges background and text (D), and menu text (E).
Customizing is done by modifying the theme section of the config.js file of Content Station.
theme: {
header: {
icon: '<url>' // URL to a custom icon. To make it fit properly, use a size of 137px by 30px.
// The colors can be represented by a hex value without the # (for example: FF0000).
backgroundColor: '3a3f4e',
buttonAndBadgeBackgroundColor: 'f9b659',
buttonAndBadgeTextColor: '222222',
textColor: '000000',
}
}
For more information, see Customizing Content Station Aurora.

A new API call is now available named Close with which articles in the Print editor can be saved and closed using a custom integration. For more information, see Content Station folder > sdk > print-editor-ui-sdk.md.

New features
The following features have been added in this release of Content Station:

When working on an article, it is very possible that the content that needs to be added already exists in a different article. Think of a slide show, an image with a caption, a quote, a particular paragraph of text, and so on.
This content can now be added by copying the component from the source article and pasting it into the article that is being edited.
The tools for copying components are available in the fullscreen preview and the device preview of a Digital article.
The components to copy are first selected by clicking the plus-sign in the top right corner of a component.
When a component is selected, a toolbar appears at the bottom of the screen showing the number of selected components as well as buttons for copying and clearing the selection.
After clicking 'Copy selection' the components can be pasted in the edited article by hovering the mouse pointer between the components where the copied components should be added and clicking the Paste icon.
For more information, see Working with the components of a Digital article in Content Station Aurora.

Working on a publication is team work. In a typical workflow therefore, an article will go through many changes before it can be published.
To discuss or communicate these changes, comments can now be added to the text in a Digital article.
This is done by selecting some text and clicking the Comment icon in the toolbar that appears.
The new Comments panel opens, showing an empty comment with the cursor placed inside it.
Type the comment in the panel and press Enter.
Comments appear in two areas in the Digital editor:
- In the text of the article. Text to which a comment is applied is highlighted in yellow.
- As a card in the Comments panel. Each card has a vertical bar in the color of the user who has added the comment (based on the color that is set in their user profile in Enterprise Server). The vertical bar is placed on the left of the card for the user that is working on the article, and to the right of the card for all other users. This makes it easy to distinguish comments that users have added themselves from comments that other users have added.
Figure: A. Text with a comment applied. B. A comment added by the user who is currently logged in. C. A comment added by another user.
For more information, see Using comments in a Digital article in Content Station Aurora.

New features
The following features have been added in this release of Content Station:

When placing an article on a layout, a pin icon is now shown in the Place Articles panel for an article that is already placed.
Note: Knowing if an article is already placed before placing it is important to be aware of; editing an article that is placed multiple times affects all instances of that article and can potentially lead to unwanted results.
Figure: The Place Articles panel.
The following icon types are used:
- A green icon when the article is placed on the layout that is currently viewed.
- A white icon when the article is placed on a different layout than the one that is currently viewed, and / or when the layout that is currently viewed is part of a different Brand.
When hovering the mouse pointer over a pin icon, a tooltip appears showing on which layouts the article is placed.
For more information, see Placing articles on a layout in Content Station Aurora.

When placing an article on a layout, the list of articles to choose from in the Place Articles panel can now also be filtered on article type (digital, print, or both), or on placement status (placed, not placed, or both).

New features
The following features have been added in this release of Content Station:

It is now possible to search for a Digital article based on the components it contains.
Example: Search for all Digital articles that contain a 'Slide Show' component.
Performing such a search is currently only possible by using a Custom Search.
To make the field available with which to search for components, the property 'Digital article component type' needs to be added to the Query Parameters in the Query setup of Enterprise Server.
The name of the component to search for should be the internal name of the component.
For most components this will be the name as it appears in the Component selector. For other components it will be a different name, for example because the display name has been changed to match the language in which Content Station is used.
The exact names to use can be verified for example on the Component Mapping page in the Management Console of Content Station. The names to use are shown in the column 'Digital'. When the name consists of two parts (such as headline/section) the first part needs to be used.
Note: End users cannot verify what the correct name to use is. Either provide them with instructions and / or set up pre-filled Custom Searches and share those with the users.
The notation of the component name in the Custom Search is not case sensitive.

It is now possible to download multiple files in one action. This is done by selecting multiple files, right-clicking one of the files and choosing the 'Download preview' or 'Download original' command from the context menu.
This requires the Content Station Desktop Application version 3.0.1 (shipped with Content Station 10.34) or higher.
Also note that the Content Station Desktop App can only be used in combination with Google Chrome, and that the process of downloading multiple files therefore can only be performed using that Web browser.
For more information, see Downloading files in Content Station Aurora.

When exporting an InDesign layout to a Digital article, content can now also be exported to the following components:
- Custom image components, including those with a credit field
- Multi-line captions
Note that this requires the InDesign PrintToDigital script version 1.0.20 (shipped with this version of Content Station).

New features
The following features have been added in this release of Content Station:
- Digital editor: Changing components by using a keyboard shortcut. Changing a component to a different type can now be done by using a keyboard shortcut, thereby making this process much faster.
Example: When pressing Enter, a new component is created — in most cases a body component. To quickly change it to another component such as a subtitle or a quote, its corresponding keyboard shortcut can now be pressed.
The available keyboard shortcuts are shown in the Change Component option in the Properties panel. Configuring the keyboard shortcuts is done as part of setting up the component in a Component Set. For details, see the boilerplate documentation on GitHub.
Figure: The Change Component option in the Properties panel of the Digital editor shows the available keyboard shortcuts for changing a component.
- Digital editor: Option added to allow only Elvis images to be added. When placing images in a Digital article, scenarios exist in which these images may only be stored in Elvis (for example because additional processing is done in the background that is only performed on images that are stored in that location). To make sure that only images that are stored in Elvis can be added to a Digital article, the following option can be enabled on the Features page in the Management Console of Content Station:
- Images have to be stored in Elvis
For more information, see Configuring the Content Station Aurora Digital editor to only use Elvis images.
- Layout preview: Tooltips added showing object properties. When opening a layout in preview mode and hovering over an object, a tooltip now shows the following properties of that object:

- Warnings when placing an article. When replacing an article on the layout or when placing an article that is already placed, a warning is now shown to inform the user. The user can then decide to either cancel the action or continue placing the article.
Changes

For more information, see the SDK documentation in the Content Station package (available in the Content Station > sdk folder).
Changes
The following changes have been made in this release of Content Station:
- Facebook Instant Articles. Support for Facebook Instant Articles has been deprecated as a result of a recent change in the Facebook policy. A used domain must now have a minimal number of views before it is eligible for Instant Articles, thereby making it very complex for us and our partners to support and/or demonstrate this feature. Together with the fact that we did not see a lot of traction for Facebook Instant Articles, the decision has been made that going forward we will no longer support Facebook Instant Articles for both Enterprise Aurora and Inception.
- Placing a Digital article on a layout. When creating a Print variant of a Digital article, the Print article that is created now gets the same Brand and Category assigned as the layout on which the article is placed. In earlier versions, the Brand and Category of the Digital article was assigned.

New features
The following features have been added in this release of Content Station:
- Creating a print variant of a Digital article: using Container components as a side story or breakout story. When a print variant of a Digital article is created, Container components are now also supported. They are processed separately from the components of the main story, meaning that frames will be generated that are separate from the frames of the main story. This makes it possible to use Containers as a side story or breakout story. By default the same mapping as for the main story is used, but a dedicated mapping for Container components can also be set up.
For more information, see Creating a print variant of a Digital article in Content Station Aurora - configuration.
- Creating a print variant of a Digital article: map a Digital component or a style to all Print components in one action. When configuring a Conversion Rule, a Digital component or a style can now be mapped to all Print components in one action.
For more information, see Creating a print variant of a Digital article in Content Station Aurora - configuration.
Changes
The following changes have been made in this release of Content Station:
- Print articles. Print articles have been made better recognizable in the search results by showing them as type 'Print' instead of type 'WCML' . This change can be seen in the thumbnail of an article and in the 'Type' column in List view.
- File check-out icon. The icon that is shown in List view mode to indicate that a file is checked-out by yourself has been changed to make it stand out more. The icon is shown in the 'Locked by' column.

New features
The following new feature has been added in this release of Content Station:
- Tasks. Getting a story published is teamwork and involves many people with different skills: from researchers gathering the initial content, to a journalist doing interviews, a photographer taking photos, a designer laying out the page, and so on.
To make sure that each person is aware of what needs to be done to get the story published on time, Tasks can now be created and assigned to a user or user group.
Creating a Task is done through the Create New window.
Note: This feature is currently limited in functionality but will be expanded in future versions. It is mainly aimed as a starting point for creating Tasks, modifying the properties of a Task (such as setting the Workflow Status and routing it to a user), and viewing the files that are assigned to a Task. Other actions such as opening a Task, adding files to or removing files from a Task are currently not available. Full support for Tasks is available in Content Station 9 or through a custom integration.
For more information, see Working with Tasks in Content Station Aurora.
Changes
The following changes have been made in this release of Content Station:
- Titles in browser tabs. When opening the Checked-out files page, the Inbox, a predefined query (also known as a Named Query), or a Custom Search, the title of that page is now displayed in the browser tab instead of the default title 'Content Station' that was displayed in previous versions.
- Selecting files in the Inbox. It is now possible to select multiple files in the Inbox, similar to all other areas of Content Station.

New features
The following new features have been added in this release of Content Station:

The following options have been added to the component definition for creating components in a Component Set:
- autofill. This option can be used to specify which metadata values should be used to automatically fill the content of a component when an image is added to an article, such as the value of the credit property or the caption property. The user can then edit this text when needed.
Notes:
|
- defaultComponentOnEnter. This option can be used to define which component should be added when the cursor is placed in a component and the user presses Enter. By default, this is the Body component.
- groups. This option can be used to control which components appear in the Component window for a Container, used for adding components to that object.

The following items in the top navigation bar now work as a hyperlink and can be opened in a new tab or window through the context menu or by Ctrl+clicking or Cmd-clicking them:
- The Content Station logo
- The refresh button of the search box
- The checked-out files icon
- The Inbox icon
Changes
The following change has been made in this release of Content Station:
- Print editor. The Layout preview now uses the last used page setting (spread or single page) for all articles that are subsequently opened.
- MicroSoft IIS Web Server setup. Content Station 11.19 now includes a web.config file which ensures that the index.html and config.js files are not cached by the Web browser.
Documentation
No changes to the documentation have been made in this release of Content Station.
Known issues
The following known issues exist for this release of Content Station:
- Layouts: Saving a layout while previewing the layout in Content Station might result in an error, "Operation cannot be executed" if RabbitMQ is disabled.
- Digital editor: The Custom Styles editor only loads SCSS files for groups that are listed in the component definition, while the design.scss file may refer to other SCSS files as well. As a result, the custom styles editor does not work for components that are not part of the Component window (used for adding a component to an article).
- Clicking the Content Station logo resets the applied filter of the search results.
Fixed issues
The following issues have been fixed in this release of Content Station:
CSH-5615 Print editor: The Image cropping panel is (sometimes) hidden behind the images panel.
CSH-5800 Print editor: Layout preview always shows layout in spread view.
CSH-5801 Custom Saved searches do not honore the dbmaxquery setting and are missing navigation buttons.
CSH-5805 Print editor: Two spaces are converted into non-breaking space and space.
CSH-5853 Text overlapping in the Create new article dialog .
CSH-5902 Items in the top toolbar should behave as hyperlinks.

New features
The following features have been added to this release of Content Station:

Content Station 11.18 makes it possible to fully control how the components of a Digital article look and behave, and which components are available for a user to add.
This is all done through the use of 'Component Sets'.
A Component Set defines the following:
- The component types that a user can make use of in a particular article such as a body component, an image component, a custom component (see below), an interactive component, and so on.
- The appearance of the Component window that is used for adding a component to an article: the name and icon of a component, how they are grouped and how the group is named.
- The properties in the Properties panel for each component type.
- The default look and feel of a component.
- The functionality of a component type such as if it can be converted to another component type and if so which one, and if it can be made part of another component.
Multiple Component Sets can be set up, each with their own configuration. This way, the components can be controlled for each individual Digital article.
Example: One Component Set could be set up containing only those components that are needed for a news article, another for a blog post, yet another for publishing to a digital channel, and so on.
Figure: The default set of components.
Figure: A custom set of components. Here, the Quote, Separator, and Crosshead components are made unavailable, and the Author component has been renamed to 'Byline' and given a different icon.
For more information, see Setting up Component Sets in Content Station Aurora.

The introduction of Component Sets also makes it possible to add custom components for adding specific content or content that is structured in a specific and consistent way.
The types of custom components that can be created are endless and only limited to your imagination and the technology used.
Some examples:
- Placing an icon on top of an image. In a newspaper scenario, it might be necessary to indicate that articles are part of a 'breaking news' story, that they contain a video, that an update will follow later, and so on. This can be done by placing an icon on top of the image of the story.
This can be achieved by using the default Image component or Slide Show component and to add an additional property to it in the form of a list from which the various types of icons can be selected.
CSS styling is used to ensure that the size and position is consistent for each icon.
Figure: An icon is placed on an image by choosing it from a list of options.
- Ordered and unordered lists. These can be made by creating a Container component in which only an ordered or unordered component can be added. Components of an ordered list are automatically numbered.
- A News Ticker. These show a summary of main news stories, sports results, and so on. They can be made by creating a Container component with specific components and act as a template in which the content can be quickly added, such as a time stamp, title, image, video, link to social media, and so on.

To ease the process of configuring Content Station, certain features can now be enabled or disabled through the Features page in the Management Console.
This makes it clearer that these features exist and they can be configured without knowing their internal name or knowing in which configuration file they need to be modified (although this is still possible to do).
Figure: The Features page in the Management Console can be used for enabling or disabling specific features.
For more information, see Configuring Content Station Aurora.

When opening an article in the Digital editor, it is automatically saved and checked-in when the user has not worked on the article for a certain period of time. This automatically makes the article available for others to edit.
In certain workflows though, it is desirable to keep the article locked as long as it is opened, regardless of whether it is actively being worked on or not.
This can now be achieved by enabling the feature named 'Keep the article checked-out as long as it is opened' on the Features page in the Management Console.

By default, when the zoom level exceeds the maximum size of the page thumbnails (by default set to 255 pixels), the Publication Overview grid view loads the page previews instead of the page thumbnails. Because the file size of page previews can be quite large, performance (loading times) can be negatively affected.
To prevent the Publication Overview grid view from loading page previews (even when the maximum thumbnail size is exceeded), the following Server Feature option can now be set in Enterprise Server:
- PublicationOverviewGridPreventPreviewLoading
For information about how to do this, see Configuring the Publication Overview Application in Content Station Aurora.
Changes
The following changes have been made in this release of Content Station:
- Digital articles: The Interactive components page has been removed from the Management Console. Interactive components are now managed through a Component Set.
- Desktop App. Content Station 11.18 requires the Desktop app version 2.4.x to be installed. It will not work with older versions.
Note: Older versions of Content Station will work with any version of the Desktop App, including version 2.4.x that is shipped with Content Station 11.18.

Fixed issues

CSH-5440 Avoid high bandwidth usage when viewing the Publication Overview.
CSH-5587 Publication Overview: pages with different sizes are not displayed correctly.

CSH-5653 Publication Overview: pages used as a spine are not displayed correctly.
CSH-5673 Do not resolve Digital article file format to version 1.2 when it is not requested in a GetObjects request.
CSH-5710 After adding a component to a new article, the preview creation is triggered and failing with each edit action.
CSH-5693 Create new article dialog: Dossier list is not updated when choosing a different Issue.

New features
The following features have been added to this release of Content Station:

An article typically goes through many changes which are made by multiple people. It can be practical (and even important) to verify which changes were made, when they were made and by whom they were made as work on the article progresses or even after the article has been published.
It works by comparing one version of the Digital article with the version before it. This is done by using the new History panel that has been added to the Digital editor.
The following changes are shown:
- For components that contain text: Text that has been removed is shown on a red background with strike-through text; text that has been added is shown on a green background.
- For components that do not contain text (such as image, interactive, social, and video components): changes to the content of the component cannot be shown; only shown is if the component itself has been added or removed.
Figure: Comparing versions of a Digital article.
For more information, see Comparing articles.

Dossiers typically contain many files whereas users only want to work on some of those files. To filter out files that a user does not want to see at that time, labels can now be used.
Example: Labels could be 'Photo shoot 1', 'Photo shoot 2', 'Inspiration', 'Draft content', and so on. Imagine for instance a photo editor who needs to work on images taken during the second photo shoot. To show all the files related to that photo shoot, all it takes is clicking the label that has been set up named 'Photo shoot 2'.
Figure: A Dossier in which files are filtered based on their label. Here, only those files are shown that have the label 'Photoshoot 2' assigned.
For more information, see Filtering files in a Dossier using labels.

The 'Deadline icon' column has been added to the List view. It shows a green, yellow or red icon if the deadline is set on a file. For more information, see Configuring the deadline warning time (soft deadline) in Enterprise Server 10.

Content Station Server plug-in version: build 99
Downloads

New features
The following features have been added to this release of Content Station:

Info: This feature also requires Enterprise Server 10.4 or higher.
A layout of a print publication rarely exists as a unique object in the system but is likely to be duplicated to one or more other Brands as the basis for other layouts, or it could be that one or more Editions are created for the layout.
It is important therefore to be aware of any relations that may exist between a particular page and other pages that are derived from it.
Such relations can now be viewed in the Related pages panel.
Figure: The Related pages panel shows all pages that are related to a selected page.
Pages in the panel are grouped by Issue and are sorted based on the order that is configured on Enterprise Server. To view all pages of an Issue, click the 'Open Issue in a new browser tab' icon.
The pages in the panel display the same information as those in the main screen. They can also be double-clicked for viewing in fullscreen mode, or right-clicked for accessing the context menu.
The Filter at the top of the panel can be used to only see related pages that are part of specific Brands.

Info: This feature also requires Enterprise Server 10.4 or higher.
When Content Station is used together with a planning system, layouts that need attention are marked by the planning system with a red flag. This flag appears in the thumbnail of the layout in the Publication Overview Application of Content Station.
A custom use for this flag can now also be configured. When triggered, the flag is colored yellow.
It works by defining a metadata field in the configuration of Enterprise Server. When this field holds any value (typically a message for the user, added to the field through the Properties window of the layout), the flag turns yellow. The user can hover the mouse pointer over the flag to see the message as a tooltip.
Note: When a planning system is used and that system also sends out a trigger for the flag, the custom use of the flag is overruled and the flag will appear red.
Figure: Flags for a layout in the Publication Overview Application: the default red flag (left) and a custom yellow flag (right).
Configuration is done through the ContentStationCustomFlagField option.
For more information, see Adding a custom use to the Publication Overview flag.

New features
The following features have been added to this release of Content Station:

When a print variant is created from a Digital article and the layout on which the article is placed contains paragraphs in which a Next Style defined, then this Next Style is used.
Example: A Digital article containing 4 'body' components is placed on a layout. The Conversion Rule that is used defines that the text of the component is styled with paragraph style 'A'. In the paragraph style on the layout, paragraph style 'A' is set up to use style 'B' as the next style. In turn, paragraph style 'B' is set up to use style 'A' as the next style. The components are styled as follows:
|
Note: The behavior described above only works if there is no separator configured in the Conversion Rule. When a separator is used, the second body will still use the paragraph style of the first body because the content will be added to the first paragraph.

Custom integrations can be added to the Publication Overview in the form of actions in the menu located at the top right of the Publication Overview (the triple dot button). Creating sub-menus is also supported.
Actions and sub-actions can have an icon and/or a label and can be separated by a line.

New features
The following features have been added to this release of Content Station:

An Interactive component is a new type of component that can be used for creating a Story using the Digital editor.
It displays content that is hosted on the Internet somewhere, such as a Google Map, a video, a poll, a quiz, and so on, and also allows this content to be customized in the Digital editor.
Example: A basic Google Map could be made available to which one or more locations can be added, the map settings changed, and so on.
Interactive components are managed in Enterprise Server and can be made available for all Brands or for specific Brands only. They appear in the Component selector as part of the 'Interactive' tab.
When adding the component, a basic view of the content is shown.
Customizing the content is done in a pop-over.
When done, the changes are displayed and stored in the article.
For more information, see:

Custom integrations can be added to the Digital editor to make functionality such as the following possible:
- Custom previews
- Dialogs showing Web CMS metadata and/or related content
- A menu bar containing options that trigger specific functionality
- Getting the article content in JSON format
To help you create your own customizations, an SDK and sample files are available in the following location:
Content Station folder > sdk
The following files are relevant to creating customizations:
-
digital-editor-sdk.md. The SDK describing the available options that can be implemented in the Digital editor.
- samples. Folder containing some example plug-ins. See the SDK for more information.
For more information, see:

Using the Editing tools that appear when selecting text in the Digital editor, text can now be turned into subscript or superscript.
When creating a print variant of the Digital article, the subscript and superscript is also included.
Changes
The following change has been made for this release of Content Station:
- Storing settings. User interface settings and Custom Searches are now stored on Enterprise server instead of in the Web browser cache.
Note: This requires Enterprise server 10.3 or higher.

New features
The following features have been added to this release of Content Station:

Creating a Digital article is done by basing it on a template. This template contains a Style that controls the look and feel of how you want the content to look.
It is now possible to control this by creating custom Styles and applying them to a Story. This can be used to bring it in line with your house style or to match it with the channel that the article is going to be published to. It also has the effect of turning the editor in a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) editor because the user will have better idea of how the end result will look. The user can also easily switch between styles while working on the article.
Creating a new Style is done by basing it on an existing Style and to then modify the CSS code for it. Creating, editing and applying Styles is done in the new Look and Feel panel.
Figure: Creating, editing and applying Styles is done in the Look and Feel panel.
Figure: Editing the CSS code of a Style.
For more information, see:

As part of creating a Style (see above), it is also possible to create Style variants.
A Style variant is a collection of style settings that are stored for repeated use. They are used for quickly styling a component.
Using a Style variant has the following benefits:
- The same style can be applied whenever and wherever it is needed.
- The style is defined through CSS and therefore very customizable.
- The style can be quickly and efficiently applied by the user
Applying a Style variant to a component is done in the Properties panel for that component.
For more information, see:

Allowing or denying a user to create or edit Styles (see above) can be done through the following Access Right:
Digital Styling > Manage Styling
For more information, see Access Rights in Enterprise 10.

When a print variant of a Digital article is created by placing the Digital article on a layout, the following processes can now automatically take place:
- Inserting text before / Inserting text after. Text can be added before or after the text that is in the component when the component is placed on the layout.
Use this to automatically add often occurring text. This way, users do not have to add this themselves, thereby making this process more efficient and less error prone.
Examples: The 'author/name' component can be used as a byline with additional text:
Or:
|
- Separator. A separator can be used for separating multiple Digital components when they are combined into the same Print component.
Options to choose from include a paragraph return and various types of spaces such as em space, thin space, figure space, and so on.
Example: The 'author/name' and 'author/location' components can be used as a byline with additional text (assumed here is that byline components are combined when placed):
Result: From our correspondent Rob Smart Amsterdam |
- Bold, italic, bold/italic. Text that is styled in the component as bold, italic or bold/italic can now have a specific character style applied.
These definitions are controlled in the newly added Advanced options of a Conversion Rule.
For more information, see Creating a print variant of a Digital article in Content Station Aurora - configuration.

For more information, see the components of a Digital article.

Knowing how many paragraphs, words and characters an article contains is essential for a writer. This was already shown in the Print editor and is now also indicated in the status bar of the Digital editor.
Note: The calculation is done only for components that are considered to be part of the main text. In Content Station 11.4, these include 'Body' text components only. Other components which also contain text but which are not considered to be part of the main text, such as image captions, quotes, the author component, and so on, are excluded.
Changes
The following change has been made for this release of Content Station:
- Publication Overview performance improvement. In previous versions of Content Station, the Publication Overview instructed Enterprise Server to clean up the page thumbnails that are stored in the File Transfer folder when a specific action was performed. The downside of this process was that it had to wait for this task to be completed before it could continue, thereby possibly resulting in slow performance. This action has therefore been removed from Content Station.
To make sure now that the File Transfer folder is regularly cleaned up, it is recommended to make sure that the Enterprise Server Job named TransferServerCleanUp is scheduled. For more information, see Working with Enterprise Server Jobs.
- Publication Overview: sharing URLs. The URL of the Publication Overview now also includes the Filter parameters. This makes it possible to easily bookmark the URL for re-use, or share the URL with other users.

Downloads
The download files for Content Station Aurora can be found in the Release announcement.
New features
The following features have been added to Content Station 11.0 build 157:

Using Content Station Aurora, two types of content can be created:
- Content specifically for print. This is done using the Print editor and the Print article file format.
- Channel-neutral content for output to digital and print channels. This is done using the Digital editor using the Digital article file format. This format can only be opened in the Digital editor of Content Station, not in InDesign or InCopy. Digital channels that are available to publish to are Adobe AEM, Apple News, Facebook Instant Articles or any custom channel.
For more information, see Available article editors in Content Station Aurora.
Figure: The Digital editor is used for creating channel-neutral content for output to digital and print channels.
Figure: The Print editor is used for creating content specifically for output to print.

Content Station Aurora is available in 2 Editions:
- Content Station print. As far as creating content is concerned, this version only contains the Print editor for creating content specifically for output to print.
- Content Station multichannel. As far as creating content is concerned, this version contains the Print editor for creating content specifically for output to print, as well as the Digital editor for creating channel-neutral content for output to digital and print channels.
Each Edition requires a different license. Users will have to choose the Edition to use when logging in to Content Station.
For a full overview of the differences in features, see Comparing the different Editions of Content Station Aurora.

In a 'digital first' workflow in Content Station, stories are first published to one or more digital output channels such as Adobe AEM, Apple News, Facebook Instant Articles or a custom channel such as a Web CMS.
This is done by creating and publishing a Digital article using the Digital editor.
Next, these stories might be re-used in a print publication such as tomorrow's newspaper or next month's magazine.
To re-use a Digital article in a print workflow, a print variant of the Digital article can be created which is optimized for a print environment.
The process of creating a print variant consists of the following actions:
- A print variant is created in the form of a Print article
- The Print article is subsequently placed on a layout
Creating a print variant can be done by placing it on a layout that already exists (typically done from within the Publication Overview application), or by placing it on a new layout.
For more information, see the following articles:

The following Access Rights have been added to Enterprise Server 10.2 for use in Content Station Aurora:
Group | Access Right | Description |
---|---|---|
Workflow | Create Digital article templates | Allows a user to create and edit Digital article templates. |

Note: The group named 'Digital Styling' is new to Enterprise Server 10.2.
For more information about Access Rights, see Access Rights in Enterprise 10.
