Improving Elvis 6 Server performance by disabling Spotlight on Mac OS X

Because Spotlight is probably not used on the system on which Elvis Server is installed, you can improve performance by disabling it.

Alternatively, at least exclude your Elvis Hot Data and Elvis Data folders from being indexed by Spotlight.

Disabling Spotlight

The primary method on Mac OS X Lion is using launchctl, (this requires an administrative password):

sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.metadata.mds.plist

For more information on how to disable Spotlight on other Mac OS X versions, search Google.
